What do you do that....
you said you would never do as a parent?
For me I had no intentions of co-sleeping. Not because I don't agree with it but because I am not comfortable with it for safety reasons. I move in my sleep and use lots of pillows and a down blanket and all of that just makes me nervous. Well we co sleep quite a bit halfway through the night usually. I find myself glued in one position with her in my arm. We do this for naps as well as sometimes its the only way I can get her to sleep. I am sure there are other things but this stands out right now.

Re: What do you do that....
I said I would ALWAYS be a wife FIRST. I insisted DH and I would continue our "date nights" as soon as the week I was home from the hospital. Well....12 weeks later DH and I have only been out on our own ONCE and to be honest - I don't mind I find much more comfort and joy when we go out as a family and I'm mom AND wife...

Re: What do you do that....
I always said that I wouldn't run in when the baby started crying at night, I thought we'd definately be a Ferber method baby. Here it is 10 months later and we still haven't had too many nights where she sleeps through the night. I just can't bear the sound of her crying, I feel so bad!
But to be fair, most of the time when she wakes up it's from teething or really bad gas (a lot of foods bother her little tummy, which the doctor tells me is normal )

Re: What do you do that....
I always said I wouldnt have a problem with family watching her and that I would go right back to my weekends out with DH and my girlfriends, and get my mom or MIL to watch her........Well that all changed when we brought her home fromt the hospital and I got soooooo attached. Its been 5 months now and I still couldnt leave her, unless I absolutely have to!

Re: What do you do that....
I said I would never co-sleep - I did with both.
I also spank - something I was adamently opposed to and could never even imagine. We used to put Joseph in the corner until he was about 22 months would whack Maddie & say "I go in the corner now, right?"
Now we're using the "thinking chair" where he has to sit & think about what he did. It's working better.

Re: What do you do that....
Co-sleeping...Molly has been in and out of my bed since she was born. She does not sleep in my bed per se but she at 5am when she wakes up I bring her into my bed and she sleeps with us until 7am.
I had no idea that I would pump like I did but I refused to give up giving her BM. It was very important to me.
I had no idea that I would go thru PPD like I did and have that much darkness in my life...but I got thru it.
I always knew I would be a worry wart and I am!

Re: What do you do that....
I said I would never ever EVER use a pacifier -- didn't even get any as gifts before she was born because everyone knew i was so against them -- but now we use them -- not constantly -- but as needed. It's one of those necessary evils at times.

Re: What do you do that....
Refused to have pacifiers in my house then as a last resort got one and it saved the day! I already hear myself saying things to Jack that my mom said to me!

Re: What do you do that....
Hey, I was all for the pacifier but my darling daughter has decided otherwise! The only way to pacify her is with the boob!
Things I do that I never expected: To breastfeed... I was really creeped out by it, but when the time came, it came so naturally for me that I couldn't dream of giving it up. Now, even though hubby wants me to wean in March, I'm so hesitant. I also didn't expect my instincts to kick in so clearly. Before I delivered, I had so many doubts about my ability to be a good mommy. I never had a maternal instinct in my life, and babies never really did anything for me. But after a few weeks at home with Alex, everything just seemed to come so naturally, and I couldn't believe how smitten I was with her...

I never thought I be so dedicated to BF, I assumed I would try it, but we are going on 1 year + now.......Also cosleeping, I thought it was a bad habit to start, but it has worked ok for us!.......I also never ever expected to be so protective of her and have such strong maternal insincts.
