What are your thoughts on this?
Do you feel if you have 2 kids and another family member had only one child that you have to spend more money on a gift for their child since they only have one? For example, the person w 2 kids has to spend $100 on one gift cause the person w 1 kid spent $50 on each of your kids? Thoughts?

We do this with my BIL and SIL. They are the ones that do it, really. They have 2 children we have one. We spend approximately $60 at Christmas, bday, etc. They spend about $120 on DD. They were the ones to bring it up. In contrast, we do not do this with my side. My one sis has three kids and we spend 3x the amount on them than they spend on my 1.

We spend equally on the children in our family because how is it fair to the kids that one kid gets really expensive gifts because they are an only child and the other kids get lesser gifts because they have siblings? Especially around the holidays when cousins are opening gifts at the same time.

Nope.
I am one and done and I would NEVER expect anyone to spend more on a gift for my DD because i have to buy for 2 or more kids for them.
Wouldn't even cross my mind!

Sorry but no. And I'm the parent with one kid!  Its a per kid thing not a per household issue for me.
She has lots of twin friends at school and a set of triple friends. Makes bday party shopping a little interesting LOL. The multiples always get their own gifts but when the set of twins gave her a gift they gave her a book and a pressed art set. Which to me is just fine. I dont really look to see 'what' they get AJ just that they were there to enjoy her day with her and that they had a good time too!
But seriously.. girl is friends with 3 sets of twins and one set of triplets! 
9 friends - 4 families and my kid's an only child!
I would never think any of those mulitples would or should spend more on AJ just because I get multiple gifts for them. It wouldn't make sense to me.

we currently have 1 ds (1 on the way) and SIL has 2. We spend what we can afford on each kid and she spends what she can afford- I would never want her to give double gift because we have one and she has 2

I don't necessarily spend double but I usually give a gift from each child.
If it is a good friend, I will get one large gift ($100). This has nothing to do with 2 kids vs 1 but because they are a good friend.

What are your thoughts on this?
I spend equally on all my nieces. Actually I just give them all cash because they are teens and the love to go shopping with their own cash.

Exactly. I am SO sick of this nickel and diming crap all the time. Every mom group I'm on it's all..."you give a better gift if the party is at a place or at a hall, you have to cover your plate or it is rude to even show up, I spent this much on her kid and she got me something on clearance". Omg. I never expect ANYTHING from anyone anytime we have a party or us or our kids. If people want to get anyone in our family anything at all, no matter what it is that is great and thoughtful of them but it's not expected and honestly, their presence is what we really want, to spend a special occasion with my loved ones and close friends. If you get me something from the dollar store or nothing at all even though I gave you a $100 gift card to your fav store I don't care I pick gifts based on making someone I love happy not because I expect you to match my dollar amount in return in the future. I also spend what I can when I can and I hope to God that no one has even turned their nose up at me when we couldn't give more.
Sorry to go off on a tangent, I've just been hearing a lot f this lately
