What am I doing wrong-- shoe related?

I measured DD's feet (8 months) and took a tape measure with me to buy her shoes for Easter. I found a few cute pairs, bought them, and can't cram her feet into them! Chat Icon

They're long enough and wide enough, she's got extra room even, but it seems the top part of her foot is too fat (don't know if there's a name for that part), so it prevents her toes from even going into the shoes. Does that make sense??

She's only ever worn soft, flexible shoes, and these are structured ones w/rubber soles...is it different for some reason?Chat Icon

It might be that she's squishing up her toes when you put them on. My dd used to do that, ds still does. I think of it as they are making a fist with their foot. It can take a good 5 minutes to get his shoes on. Chat Icon

thats the same issue we had!

I went to stride rite and they measured him as a 4 wide.

I measured him as a 3.

The 4's fit fine now( albeit a little big)

Go have her measured in the store.

Lucas went through a brief phase where he would scrunch up his toes and that made them even wider than they already are. I usually tickle his foot just before the shoes go on and he relaxes... I also open the shoe as wide as it will go (so I stretch the laces) and that helps a lot.

I would suggest having her foot measured at a store. Lucas was measured as an X-Wide but they told me that based on what they see he could wear a wide as well...sure enough both are fine for him.

You have to take her to the store to have her feet measured. A tape measure won't do it.

It sounds like she may need a wide shoe. I would have her measured as everyone suggested. Chat Icon
