What age do you stop taking temps rectally?
And what method did you switch to? Not sure what the recommendation is.

I never did it rectally, I use a thermal scanner and its been fine. DS hasn't gotten sick enough for us to need anything else, though. I think if he ever got a fever over 100, I would have run out and gotten one.
But now that he's 12m. I don't see it happening.

Honestly though I started relying completely on my ear thermometer by 2 yrs old

I still take his temp rectal initially as a base temp (he's 2) then I use our ear thermometer after that.
I have found in my field of work and also at the Dr. other methods are inaccurate.

I started using the ear thermometer around 18 months for DS... for DD, I don't think I used the rectal thermometer past 6 months. She's a squirmer
