What age do they start to show hand preference?

It seemed like almost from birth that my DS was a righty. My DD is 18 mos and she uses both hads interchageably - she uses both with the same ability. At what age are they supposed to show a preference/ TIA!

my almosy 3 yr old has always shown a preference to his left hand, though he can write with both...just more natural with the left....when he throws and hits with the bat, he does better righty...kinda strange!

For the longest time DD used both hands to do things. She even colored with both hands. Once she began to write at 3.5 years she began using her right hand more and more. Now at 4 she uses her right hand for most tasks.

I've heard it comes later but it seems like my DS is righty since about 14 months. If I hand him something (like a spoon) to his left he often switches.
