did your dd/ds go into a toddler bed? I am thinking ahead and when baby #2 is born dd will be 17 months. The baby will be in rock and play for a 3-4 months so that will make dd 21 months. Is that old enough for a toddler bed?

Depends on the child IMO. My 21 month DS still flips around in his sleep some nights, doesn't attempt to climb out of his crib and has no problems going in it at nap time or night, so I am planning on keeping him in it longer. He will be 27 months when our new little one arrives, so I will probably switch him out then while the baby is in my room still.

Its really whatever you feel comfortable with. I know a few moms who changed their dc's out when they were young (16/17/18 months) and others who waited till after they were 2.

Thanks! I really don't want to buy another crib.

Emmy is 2.5 and could seriously still be in a crib lol, and in fact is at my mom's house. We switched her into a toddler bed at 25 months and never had a single issue. She "fell" out the 1st night but not since. She was so excited about her bed! She never tried to climb out of her crib and really liked it so I was nervous. We made the switch because we were going to start pt her. We have decided to wait, but I don't regret switching her. I did learn I hate toddler beds lol. When Saw is big enough he will go right into a full size bed with rails. I bought my toddler bed at a consignment event for $25 so I don't have a big investment in it. I suggest Craigs list for the toddler bed frame, but if the plan is to use the crib and mattress for the new baby just do a twin or full and only put the mattress on the floor.

DD is 3 next month and still in the crib. Chat Icon She doesn't complain, never climbs out and sleeps GREAT so why mess with a good thing? If we had another kid and needed it we would have switched her out but we kept her in and will be converting it to a bed when we move next week.

Re: What age...

DS went right from a crib to a twin (with side rails), he was about 12/13 months. He was climbing out of his crib!

DD is 22 months now and we had to switch her over last month. She was climbing out of her crib. There is not age in which to do this - it's whatever is best for you and your child.
