West Islip????
DH heard about a house in West Islip that is for sale by owner, so we took a drive by it and it has a basement and a 2 car garage. We haven't seen the inside yet. My question is is there parts of West Islip that are not so nice? This house is north of sunrise off of Udalls. Any info would be appreciated!

I've never heard anyone say anything bad about W. Islip.
My cousin, my good friend & one of my bosses all live there. They all LOVE it.
My cousin & friend are off Udall, my boss is on the bay.

There are not really any "undesirable" areas of West Islip......very nice neighborhood all around!!!!
I work there and drive around West Islip frequently!!!!!
Tight community, good schools.....and I notice that lots of people who grew up there tend to stay there!

There aren't that many bad spots of WI off of Udall... I've lived here all my life, I wouldn't worry about it!

I grew up there and my parents are still there and honestly - I have never heard anything bad about the town.
If we could we would have bought there.
My parents are also in this area - but actually they are north of hunter and they love it.

I'm in West Islip and I love it. I don't really think there are any bad areas but I know some are actually in Bay Shore SD (which some people do not think is as desirable) and if you are north of the Southern State I don't think sewer service is available.

West Islip is a good area. I grew up off Udall Road. Your area is def in the WI School district, unless you are north of Bay Shore Road.

If the house has a West Islip zip code, it is west islip schools.
The only way it would be either Bay Shore or Brentwood is if the address is NOT west islip.

There are some with Bay Shore addresses, that are West Islip schools, those tend to be up by Bay Shore Road and off of Orinoco.

My husband and I are one of those who grew up in West Islip, and will stay here. We are looking for a house in West Islip as well. I wonder if the one you are looking at is one that we have already looked at? Good luck!

I grew up in West Islip and currently live in West Islip, my mom lives off Udall Road and there are really no bad areas in West Islip.

My nana lives right across from the station. We lived with her for a few years and it is noisy but after a while I guess you just learn to tune it out.

That is pretty much with everything - I grew up across the street from Southern State - never heard anything.

Well that is true. I used to live under the landing path for Republic. After about a month I never even heard the planes anymore...

Not true. There is actually a court case pending where the West Islip School District is suing a family that sent their children to WI schools and they should have gone to Bay Shore. The family says their address is West Islip and the neighbor's kids go to West Islip schools, so they assumed their kids should too. But, their house is actually Bay Shore schools with a West Islip address. Not sure exactly where they live in West Islip.
I don't think there are many houses that are a different school district. But just check it out when you check out the house.

I live off Udall Rd. north of the Southern State and I have a Bay Shore mailing address but West Islip schools. The post office redistricted and my address became Bay Shore many years ago but my mortgage and taxes all say West Islip, it is weird. I love the area and the community and the schools are great. We have only been here 1 year this June and I have two kids in elementary school and I am very happy.

Thanks so much again! Now I am just waiting  for DH to call the person who told him about the house so we can contact the seller directley and see!! This may take a while he is very laid back about everything! I will keep you posted as to how it all goes!!!!
