West Hempstead
Anyone? I've heard mixed reviews about the area...there's a great house that's a foreclosure so it's soooo in our price range it's obscene, but I don't want to be stuck with an area that won't have good resale later. Anyone? Bueler?

Re: West Hempstead
I dont think they have a high school, when I was growing up the kids got bussed to another town. I know that it has a very big Orthodox Jewish Community but all those kids go to private school.

Re: West Hempstead
W. Hempstead does have a H.S., it's right on Nassau Blvd.
West Hempstead is a huge area going from the Southern State parkway, up to Hempstead Typk, down by where National Liquadators used to be. I know the area by the H.S. and up Hempstead Ave. does has a large Orthodox community. The area's more north around Hemp. Typke not so much so.
check out greatschools.org to get more info on the actual school system.
Also, if your on MLS looking at West Hempstead, the town also crosses over to the other side of the S.S. but those kids go to Malverne sd.

Re: West Hempstead
Parts of West Hempstead go to the Franklin Square Schools. So anywhere between Dogwood Ave and Nassua Blvd. is Franklin Square School. The part that is Orthodox is really nice but they all go to private school. As for W. Hempstead High School I am pretty sure they bus kids in from other towns. So that may be a concern.

Re: West Hempstead
west hempstead HS does bus kids in from other towns. The elementary schools aren't terrible however, I've heard mixed reviews about the middle and high school. It's a big area though so check which SD the house falls under.

Yes they bus from Island Park; IP has no high school so students can choose from going to WH or Long Beach.
Some parts of WH also have Franklin Square schools

Re: West Hempstead
Parts of West Hempstead are more desirable than others, depending on what you are looking for. Houses in Cathedral Gardens are more expensive, they are closer to the Garden City border. Houses that are within walking distance to one of the temples tend to be priced a little higher too. I think your resale value is going to depend on which part of town you are living in.
WH does have a high school and for many years, Island Park students were bussed in because IP does not have a HS and WH had the room. A few years ago, IP students were given the option to go to either Long Beach HS or WH HS.
