Weight Gain first trimester
So im a bit nervous about my current weight gain. My BMI was normal before pregnancy 23.5 I believe. I gained 6 pounds so far since week 4! Im on week 9 and 1 day. Im a bit scared that this means im going to be overly fat which isnt healthy. my doc gave me a guideline saying 4lbs is what women shld gain in the 1st trimester when at a healthy BMI. I splurge once in a while but dont eat horribly that often. Anyone else gain a bit much during first trimester and still managed to gain no more than 25-30 at the end?

Re: Weight Gain first trimester
Don't go by guidelines, everyone will gain what they need to. I gained 10lbs in the first tri. I never got nauseous and in fact my appetite was in full force- but I did make healthy choices as much as possible. Now at 24wks I'm up nearly 30lbs already. I've actually stopped weighing myself as of a week ago . As long as you are making healthy choices and not eating icecream for breakfast, etc then your body is just gaining what it needs to. My dr is not worried- and he's a high risk dr who worries about everything!!

Weight Gain first trimester
I'm only in the beginning of the second trimester so I can't answer your question fully. But when I saw my Dr. She said bgaunng 5-6 pounds is normal for your first trimester. I gained 5... Ill have to see where I'm at with the second trimester. I'm sure If you just monitor what your eat you will be okay!

ITA with this. I gained 8 and i happen to eat very healthy bc i have stomach issues. So that means i gained double of what the guidelines say!! You can only control it to a degree.

Re: Weight Gain first trimester
Everyone is different! I thought I was golden because I didn't gain anything during the first trimester, but I've made up for it tenfold and now I am gaining more than the guidelines. Be healthy and exhale.

Re: Weight Gain first trimester
I gained 10lbs from 4-10weeks. It was mostly because I only could stomach pasta and carb rich foods. Once I hit my second trimester I started to enjoy vegetables and protein again. From 10-22w I only put on 3lbs.

Re: Weight Gain first trimester
I think everybody is different, some people gain most of their weight at the beginning, others in the middle, and others at the very end.... I only gained maybe 3 pounds in the first trimester but then gained 13 in the second... and will probably gain even more in the next few months. You might be the reverse, gaining more at the beginning but it will slow down.

Re: Weight Gain first trimester
I gained almost all of my weight during the first trimester. I only gained about 5lbs the 2nd and 3rd. Try not to stress!

Re: Weight Gain first trimester
I also gained the bulk (so far) between weeks 5-9. Between 9 and 14 I didn't gain anything! I even lost a lb between weeks 13 and 14. I'm at 16 now and have an appointment next week so I'll see then. My body is doing what it needs to and no doctor has said boo about my weight gain. I don't weigh myself and only get weighed at doctor's appointments which for me is helpful because I don't fixate on it and I know if there was a concern they would mention it at that time.

Weight Gain first trimester
With my son, I felt the same as you. I was so scared to get on that scale and couldn't believe how much I was gaining. Prior to getting pregnant, I was always very conscious what I ate, so when I became pregnant I knew I couldn't diet...so I just tried to eat healthy. I gained close to 70 lbs....but the doctors were not concerned and I was always told that your body gains what it needs to support the baby. I was on the thinner side...so I am thinking maybe that's why? It was very hard but I knew that this is what my body needed to do for the health of the baby. Now, with baby #2, I haven't gained anything yet....but still very early and only at 6 weeks so I am hoping this time around it's slower and I have some extra weight on me too, so maybe that's why. Try not to stress over the numbers, being healthy is #1.

Re: Weight Gain first trimester
I have learned that your body does what it needs to do. I am eating better and staying active but I am gaining more than I did my previous pregnancy when I was on bed rest and eating crap. It's hard to see the lbs go up on the scale but sometimes it's what nature intends. I think I gained 15lbs my 1st trimester.
