Weight gain after procedures.
I noticed a 7 pound weight gain when I got on the scale this morning. Considering I hardly ate anything the day before my surgery and I dont eat much to begin with, could this be a by product of anesthesia or pain meds or just bloat? Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.
ETA: I am 5 years out of gastric bypass and my food intake is less than what people are able to take in. I also do not absorb all of the calories in the food I DO eat. It is virtually physically impossible for someone like me to gain that kind of weight that quickly without massive amounts of calories.

Re: Weight gain after procedures.
I have to guess it is from the IV. I simply do not eat enough food or absorb that many calories to gain 7 pounds in 2 days. It is just impossible.
As far as moving around today, its a lil uncomfy. All of the pain meds have worn off and I feel like I was punched in the gut. It makes sense though, thats how it felt after my other laparoscopic procedure. Where ever the incisions are made, is where the cramping and discomfort will be. It is tolerable, but I am walking a little hunched over. I cant sleep on my stomach.

Re: Weight gain after procedures.
If you had IV fluids, its definatly that.
When Im on IV fluids, I usually gain 5-10 lbs afterwards, and it takes about 5-6 days for it to go away, its all bloat.

I rember a 2 or 3 weeks after the lap. I was getting out of the shower drying myself off and patting the incision areas and -OUCH. Just try to be gentle ( even after you better
As far as the weight gain, maybe it is IV bloat. I hope you feel better soon

Re: Weight gain after procedures.
I was definately bloated after my Lapro. It took awhile for the bloat to go away. I was living in sweats for awhile. Remember they pump your stomach with air. You are definately going to feel like you gained weight! It's definately uncomfy!

Thanks so much. I was getting nervous! I know I will gain weight with a pregnancy, but I just didnt plan on gaining now! I had a quite a bit of IV fluids not to mention all sorts of meds for pain and nausea. It all makes sense now. I also have some lovely marks from the bandages and a lil raw skin.

Re: Weight gain after procedures.
Maybe it could also be bloating from the gas/air they use during the laproscopy.
That must be scary, but I bet it'll go away in few days!

Re: Weight gain after procedures.
Oh yes, there is gas and lots of it. TMI I am sorry. Poor DH I am already 2 pounds down. It also explains why my face was so swollen the day after the procedure. I realize I shouldnt be complaining, I am grateful for my end result - I really am. I just wasn't able to put 2 and 2 together.
