weight gain
So I had my 32 week appt today and the Dr is , well, not happy. I have gained 9.5 lbs to date. She said is measuring normal and all else is good... BUT she's sending me to a dietician and now I need to go to see her EVERY week!
Never in my life have I had a hard time gaining weight... NOW? of all times?? Come on! She told me at my 28 week visit that I needed to add calories and to try having a carnation instant breakfast every morning WITH my regular breakfast.. which I did. And I gained half a friggin pound! Ugh.. how much are you ladies gaining and does anyone have any suggestions.
Hubby is on calorie patrol now and he's going to drive me insane!!! Thanks girls....

Re: weight gain
Maybe your metabolism is higher during PG? It happens. I did not gain any weight for the frist 16w with DS, and then I only gained a few lbs until I was put on bed rest a month before I had him.

Re: weight gain
wow, and I thought I didn't gain a lot!
At my 33 week appt I was up 14 lbs (19 if you count the 5 I lost in my first trimester). But I'm rather heavy-set, so I'm not supposed to gain a lot.
It's difficult to eat enough w/o eating junk. (after all, junk never does any good.... so it's always best to avoid) My suggestion to you is to eat more full fat dairy. Cheese, ice cream... that rockets on the calories rather quickly. Also more fatty meats rather than lean ones. Fruit juice is another high calorie food. Add juice to your water!
I have GD, so they put me on this crazy low carb diet and then told me to gain weight. frankly, I just have been forcing myself to eat more frequently in order to gain 1-2 lbs every 2 weeks.
good luck!

Re: weight gain
How much should you have gained by now? If the baby is healthy and measuring normal and everything 'else' looks good ........how much does the Dr. want you to gain?
Is it possible for your metabolism to increase when you're pg ??

Re: weight gain
I'm 26 weeks and up 10 lbs. I'm really sorry that you're having this trouble. It seems counter intuative to not gain enough weight when we are told our whole lives to be thinner!
I agree with the pp and suggest full fat milk and ice cream as well as fruit juice. Can you try and add a 4th meal in? Maybe brunch in addition to breakfast and lunch?

Re: weight gain
I can understand where you are coming from. I have done nothing but LOSE weight during this PG. I was trying to lose weight before gettnig pregnant & the weight would not come off.... Then when I got pregnant I lost 14lbs & I am having trouble gaining it back as I come to the end of my second trimester. So far my Doc is not concerned. I must also say that I was overweight before getting pregnant.
I did not have any morning sickness but I had NO appetite from 6 weeks to about 16 weeks. I had to force myself to eat. By my 16 week appt I had lost 14lbs. Doc said everything was OK because the baby was growing on target & I should be getting my appetite back soon & then I would start to gain weight. I started to get my appetite back slowly and I gain 4lbs back by my 20 week appt. THEN, at my 24 week appt last Friday I find out that I LOST 3lbs again. So I am still 13lbs lighter than before getting pregnant. I asked the Doc again if we should be concerned & she said we will keep watch on it & monitor the baby's growth. She then measured my belly & said the baby was fine & was gaining weight as he should so for now it is not a concern. I can't help but to still feel a little worried though. I hope I gain back some weight by my next appt on 9/12.

Re: weight gain
I don't get that but I guess everyone and every doctor is different. I'm 26 weeks and up about 18 lbs and my doctor said I'm doing good. I was a size 4 pre-pregnancy and fit in all my pants still just need a bella band. It's all gone to my belly so far....sorry you have to watch your diet now, I'd be so upset

Re: weight gain
Here are my recommendations:
1- every night, before bed, eat a heaping tablespoon of peanut butter, washed down with a glass of whole milk
2-Start out every meal with a peice of fatty cheese (pasteurized, of course). Add a glass of sugary grape juice to fool yourself into thinking you are having wine and cheese.
3-Cheeseburgers
4- ice cream sundaes (full fat, premium ice cream)
5-lots of nuts....
6- put olive oil on everything
7- lots of pasta, with olive oil and parmesean cheese
That should have you packing on the pounds pretty fast, I would think.
