weight gain

so i am almost 11 weeks and my regular clothes dont fit great, everything is getting tight :( I have maternity pants and they are so comfy, i just hate that i have to start wearing it already,
while i have bad m/s but i am also craving carbs, cheese, etc, and i only throw up in the AM, i am just nausuous ALL the time, so in the past 5 weeks i have put on around 4-5 pounds. I was small to begin with (siza 2-4), and i didnt think it would be like this so soon. also i am on progesterine supplements, which also make you bloated, so hopefully when i stop it next week , it will help,
my family and DH think i am nuts and that i am barely showing, but i know how uncomfortable my clothes are and what my body used to be like
are their any other small/petite girls (i am around 5'2 1/2) who also gained right away and had to go into matetnity clothes before the 1st trimester ended? Sorry if i am being a baby, i have just struggled with my weight my whole life, so as much as i am thrilled i am preggos, i am scared as to what i will end up looking like

Re: weight gain

I'm right with you on this one. I'll be 11 weeks on Sunday and I'm more comfortable in maternity pants right now as well. My regular pants fit (size 8/10) but the waistbands are uncomfortable. I was stressed about wearing maternity pants so early as well but realized I'm much more concerned with being comfortable at this point. Everyone gains weight differently. My SIL gained nothing in her first trimester and 1/2 of her second. She ended up gaining 40 lbs the second 1/2 of her pregnancy. Don't let it stress you out. Just be comfy! Chat Icon

Re: weight gain

i am a bit taller 5'6 but i could have written this too! i am 11 wks too and feel huge! i am able to squeeze into my reg. clothes but am ready to move over to maternity. however, i am confused about buying pants so early...are they just like buying your reg. clothes but in a bigger size?
my sister in law is 6 wks ahead of me and has yet to even look slightly bloated let alone wear maternity clothes! it's making me crazy too- and i have had to stop running and i'm hungry like ALL THE TIME Chat Icon so i eat -A LOT!
anyway, don't be so hard on yourself! this is a special yet temporary condition so enjoy it. i know i am trying to have that outlook. i know that i can lose the weight after but that doesn't always help me stop worrying about looking like a house! Chat Icon

Re: weight gain

I have struggled with my weight forever, before I got pg with DD, i was finally happy in my size 4's.

I am 5'3'' and believe me it's so hard at first to see that scale rise.

DON"T WEIGH YOURSELF AT HOME or LOOK AT THE SCALE AT THE DR"S!! it helps, believe me.

I know it's hard but just remember you are not getting fat just because, you are growing a baby, and that baby needs nourishment. This is one of many unselfish things we do for our children.

I was in maternity pants by 7 weeks with DD, and gained 12lbs by the end of the 1st trimester. Like you, the only things i could keep down were carbs, and fried food. I ate very well the rest of my pg, and still gained 50 lbs, I TOTALLY think weight gain is mostly out of our control and totally up to genetics.

Embrass it, don't hate yourself, the weight WILL COME OFF! Mine came off within 6 months of giving birth. OF course then i got pg again, but you can do it.

Make sure you take pics of your beautiful body too, i didn't cause i wasn't happy and totally regret that precious time i missed.

Re: weight gain

I am 5'1 and was in maternity clothes by 8 weeks...
I have in all my pregnancies gained the weight in the beginning and not in the end.
my first two also...so its not just because theres two this time,
Now at 21 weeks it has slowed.

Re: weight gain

I'm kind of with you on this. I am 5'1 and my whole life I was a size 2/4 UNTIL I got married. I gained about 15 lbs the first year of marriage. I have a small frame so it all really went to my belly. I was at the point though, where we were trying to get pregnant and I didn't think there would be any reason to start working out hard because my mentality was that I was going to gain weight anyway once I was preggo.

All of my clothes are that size (even though some were def. getting to be snug before we were officially pregnant)

Now, with being pregnant (11 weeks) and literally eating about 8 meals a day - I am starting to get a pretty decent bump and everything is tight on me. I don't want to get maternity clothes yet because I feel they will just go to waste until I get much bigger. I did get the bella band and have worn it a few times. I was able to wear my regular jeans with the bella band and it was ok.

For the most part - I only wear sweats (being that I mostly work from home it's not a problem) But I dread when I do have to go out - or have an appointment because I just feel that nothing is going to look right for a long time.

Don't feel so bad, by 6 weeks, my regular clothes hurt and I've been in maternity since. I've also gained a solid 5 pounds in the 8 weeks I've known about the pregnancy. I looked up my weight gain in my first pregnancy and I didn't gain 7 pounds until my 23rd week.

Re: weight gain

I'm 5'1" and was a size 2 or 4 to begin with. I was wearing maternity clothes in my first trimester. More also for the fact that I was extremely bloated and my clothes were getting tight on me. Looking back, I wasn't really showing yet but I was retaining a ton of water and the maternity clothes I bought just felt comfier. So you're not alone. It's pretty common that at the very least, your clothes will get tight on you even if you were tiny to begin with. You may want to try the bella band with your regular pants in the meantime as an alternative too.
