Weight Gain - 1st Tri
Hi ladies... So I have another appt with my OB the end of this week where I will be asking this question but I just wanted to get an idea of how much weight others have gained during their first trimester?
I am 12 weeks and am up almost 5 pounds. At my first meeting with my doctor she suggested aiming for gaining 25 pounds the entire pregnancy so I am worried that I put on 5 lbs. too fast. Thoughts?

5 pounds seems like a fine amount. I think the suggested amount for the entire pregnancy is 25-35 (if you are within a healthy BMI), but honestly you will gain what you need to gain.
I have been eating pretty healthy and running at least 25 miles a week. At 21 weeks, I am up 13 pounds. Oh well!

I gained 7 lbs. in my first tri. At 32 weeks, I am up 23 lbs. Just exercise and eat healthy, and your body will do what it needs to do.

My OB said during the first trimester I should gain between 2-4 pounds- I do not think a five pound weight gain is excessive at all. It is recommended that the average woman with a normal BMI before pregnancy gain 25-35 pounds total. I gained about 3 pounds my first trimester and at nearly 28 weeks I am up about 15 pounds. My OB is really strict about weight gain and does not want me to gain more than 1 pound per week during the second and third trimesters.

I wouldn't even worry about it. I gained 95% of my weight the first 2 tris. My Dr never said boo about it.
Your body will gain what it needs and you only have a certain amount of control over it.

Weight Gain - 1st Tri
Thanks girls, this is very helpful. I am just worried because I have been so exhausted that I have only been exercising one day a week. Hoping to get my energy back as I head into my second tri so that between working out and good food choices I can put on healthy pounds.

I was throwing up too much in the first to exercise....I got better with the second! Good luck!

I exercised until week 7, and then nausea and exhaustion knocked me out from weeks 8-17. Don't worry. Your energy should come back a bit in your second tri. Until then, just let yourself rest and eat as you need to. You are growing a human! It's tough work.

Re: Weight Gain - 1st Tri
I think everyone's body reacts differently to pregnancy and you can not get caught up on the number on the scale or only gaining a certain amount of weight. Eat healthy for the most part and let your body do what it's going to do.
With my DD, I gained a lot in the first trimester and I gained 52bs in total. My dr never said anything about my weight. I ate healthy and didnt stress the number. I lost 30 lbs quickly after having her.
This time I am not gaining as much, but not doing anything differently either. I am throwing up more, maybe that's why.
I just wouldnt stress the weight or the number on the scale. Just try to be healthy!!
