Weighing a 5 year old? more info added
I am a Stepparent to a 5 year old boy. He tells us that his mom weighs him daily. He isn't overweight and we are in contact with his pediatrician so we would know if the doctor instructed her to weigh him every day. Is there another reason why she would be doing this?
Edited to clarify - he doesn't get on the scale for fun, to see the numbers, etc. He tells us that she makes him get on the scale daily.
Edited again -- ok, so I wanted to see the responses without giving the full info. How does this change your response - SS tells us that his mom calls him fat and that is why she makes him get on the scale every day. While she doesn't have an eating disorder per se, she restricts her food intake. I don't know why a parent would find it necessary to weigh a 5 year old every day but I don't know if this is just some common thing I don't know about because I am an stepmom and my friends don't have kids yet. I personally find it very disturbing. SS is definitely not "fat" and the pediatrician has told DH that SS is totally normal and healthy.

As a mom of a 5 year old I can tell you that they copy everything you do. One reason why may be that his mom weighs herself everyday and maybe he sees this and started doing it too. Kids love to get on the scale eventhough they really don't know what it means.

At 5 years old, how cool is it that stepping on this platform on the floor makes numbers show up! For a 5yo, I would think it would be a cool toy to play with...

I agree...I think they find it fun. My 2 year old loves stepping on the scale...he stands on and says, oh 14. Haha

I never said that he steps on the scale himself - SHE weighs HIM, tells him to get on the scale. When he is at our place he couldn't care less about going on a scale. If he were just goofing around, seeing the numbers, I really wouldn't even think twice about it. I just wonder why she would weigh him daily.

Maybe she weighs herself daily so it's just part of her routine. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Unless his mom has an eating disorder, I wouldn't concern myself. She may be doing it out of habit.
