Weaning advice

I'm nervous to start weaning DD next week. I'll be starting off by replacing one BF session with a bottle of formula and doing that for a week. Then the next week , replace another feeding. I'm aiming to replace 3 feedings during the day with formula by the end of August since that's when I'll be away from her when I go to work. I want to BF in the morning and night at least in the beginning. I'm not quite sure how much formula to give her. She eats anywhere from 4-5 oz of breastmilk now. Is it the same for formula? I'm also worried about how I'm going to feel since I"ll be missing a feeding each day. I shouldn't pump right? That'll mess things up? Advice please!

Since you are doing it so gradually you will be ok and don't pump. I would start with maybe 4.5oz and see how she does. She also might go longer since the formula is heavier between the feedings. This happened to my friend.

Re: Weaning advice

If you don't pump your supply may decrease. Would you be able to pump at work?

I just weaned DS - he took the same amount of formula as breastmilk.

The first formula I tried (Similac Advanced) made him very gassy and fussy. He is now on Similac Sensitive with no issues.

Well, I want my supply to decrease somewhat. I will be at work from 7:30-3:00 and will not BF during that time. It is not convenient for me to pump at all as I have a packed schedule this year and any free time I have will have to be dedicated to prep work/grading. That's why I'm switching to formula during the day. If my supply decreases to the point where I can't BF when I'm home am/pm with DD , I'll be okay with that, but I want to give it a try at first.

I weaned the exact same way you are planning on. It worked out perfectly. I never had any problem with fullness or anything. When I went back to work I still BF in the morning and evening. I did not need to pump during the day.

When I started weaing DD I gave her 4oz bottles...sometimes that was enough, other times if I could tell she was still hungry I would just make up another 2 oz bottle.

Hope this helps!!! Good luck!
