We NEED to be one less car!!!!
How's everyone doing today?
I have been out of work for 6 months and today is my first day back (I was on disability). Well DH bought my older sisters car for $1 (HAHA) and we are going to sell his car.
His car is in GREAT shape but I can't drive stick and he's tired of me complaining about it. It's a 2004 Nissian Sentra. We have it on cars.com and craigslist.com. Does anyone have any other ideas that we can sell this car?
(If anyone is interested please FM me. It's a 2004 but only has about 48,000 miles and is in Wantagh)

We NEED to be one less car!!!!
We've sold a couple of cars just by putting an ad in Newsday. It's costly, but it works!

The Kelley Blue Book value on the car for fair is $8400 (remember the miles are REALLY low). so that's what DH put down for it. It's a 6 speed, Nissian Sentra SpecV.

We NEED to be one less car!!!!
I'm a little surprised by your asking price. We are not in the market for a used vehicle any longer but we just recently purchased a car for my stepson. We ended up with a Honda Civic for him, great condition, only about 60,000 miles on it, same year. We paid less than half of what you're asking. I wish you so much luck and hope you get that but as someone who was recently in the market, I can tell you that asking over $8grand for a car that's 8 years old and a stick, especially a Sentra, will be very difficult to sell. Would you consider dropping your price?

Re: We NEED to be one less car!!!!
Anytime I've purchased a used car in the past we have found it on Cars.com, autotrader or Craigslist.
Are you not getting calls on it? If that's the case, while $8,400 may be book value, it could be that people in the market for an 8 year old Sentra are looking for more of a deal. Maybe try putting it on craisglist for a lower price and see if you get more calls. You don't have to sell it for the cheaper price, but that might give you some insight. If you're looking for a quick sale you might have to make the sacrifice.

Re: We NEED to be one less car!!!!
Try selling at car cash.
The KBB value is nowhere near what you will get as a private seller. Maybe half.

Re: We NEED to be one less car!!!!
The KBB value was the private sale value. it might be 8 years old but it's in great condition and the KBB value for great condition is about 10 grand, so we are asking for less then what the KBB value is. And again it only has 48,000 and has never been in an accident.
Thank you for the advice on Newsday, craigslist and the car cash. I will look into that.

We NEED to be one less car!!!!
you may need to seriously lower your price...
right now the list price for a brand new 2012 sentra with stick is 16,400..so although yours is in good condition, i couldn't justify to myself ever buying it, because i would rather spend the extra 8k to get a car that was brand new with a waranty and 0 miles...and i own a sentra i bought new ;)
jmo
eta:
does it have a lot of options? bc if you do the basic '04 sentra in excellent condition the kbb value is 7k, and even the fully loaded one in excellent condition comes in under 10k..so idk where you're getting 10k from?
i would probably lower the price to at least around 7k though..

Re: We NEED to be one less car!!!!
I don't think anyone uses KBB anymore. I use NADA, which says your car would be worth around $6900. That was with 48K in great condition.
When I bought my car from the dealer, I got it for 3K under the NADA value. Most cars are sold under NADA value, even new cars.
I think (I'm sure you don't care what I think but I'm telling you anyway. Lol) you should price to sell around 3K, maybe $3500.
A 2004 can't be financed either, so anyone buying it is paying cash. That's something to think about also.
Good Luck! I hope you sell it quickly!

Re: We NEED to be one less car!!!!
I appreciate everyone's advice, I really do. Especially the people who answered the question that I was asking on where to sell the car.
As for lowering the price that is not something we are looking to do right now. It's a specV, not a regular Sentra so it's higher in price. We spoke to dealerships who offered us about 6500 for a trade in value and spoke to my auto body shop who told us the price we were asking for is about right since he just sold his for that.
I don't mean to be rude or anything and like I said I appreciate the advice everyone is giving. But really I was just looking for suggestions on where to sell the car not how much we should sell it for.
Thank you everyone for your time. Trust me I'm not looking to start anything, just looking for suggestions on what sites to use to post the car.

Re: We NEED to be one less car!!!!
There is a huge demand for good used cars right now, and if priced right, they go FAST on Craig's List. My used car sold within a couple of days, as did some of our friends. So something is telling me the pricing isn't right, but I guess you will just wait it out until someone gives you what you want. Good luck!

I spoke to DH and he only put the car up once on craigslist.com and that was a long time ago. I told him he needs to do it every couple days so really it's only been up on cars.com for now. I'll keep trying craigslist though.

We NEED to be one less car!!!!
Since its a SE-R Spec V, I would think he should be looking on some online forums for SE-Rs and posting the ad there.
I used to have a 92 SE-R and back in the late 90s there was an active following for the car, I'm assuming there still is.
I will also say, since I have a tendency to buy "special" cars. Their worth in the marketplace isn't always fully recogniized, and the buyer pool is very small who actually know and appreciate what you have. "normal" people are going to compare it to the price of a regular sentra and wonder why you're pricing high, you have to find that someone who is specifically looking for a spec V.
I recently sold a "normal"car a Ford Escape. I sold it on craigslist in less than a week. I priced below trade in value on KBB. I picked my price based upon what everyone else was selling for on craigslist and undercut them. I had certian things about my car (a dent and a door issue) that made it worth slightly less than others dispite the rest of the condition.

I agree with this. If it's a specialty car, definitely look for forums where people might be more interested in this particular car and know the true value of it. My DH just sold his 1988 BMW for $5000. A 25 year old car...that had over 250,000 miles on it, had some rust spots on it, had some other cosmetic issues with it....for $5000. His car was a special type of BMW M5 that only had 180 produced. Granted, the guy who bought it was in Pittsburgh and we happened to be able to drive it to him on our way out to a family vacation in Michigan, but the point is there are people out there who will pay what you're looking for. You just have to find them, and possibly be patient.
Good luck!

You may want to check out eBay Motors as well. My BIL bought his AMG through there and paid a lot less than what they were listed on at other forums. Good luck!
