We closed today!
We closed this morning on our new mammouth fixer-upper. Let the fun begin! I'll be on here periodically with before and after pics as the renovations progress.
I felt so bad. The seller was the daughter of the woman who owned the house, who passed a few months ago. She was crying the whole time, but kept saying her mother would have been so happy that a nice young couple bought the house. At the end she said she was going to stop by this week with things she removed that she knew her mother would want us to have. A part of me felt so guilty that we plan on gutting the place

Congrats!!! That is a sweet story and it def. makes it easier to like who you are selling your home to.
There is really nothing better than being a homeowner and seeing all of the renovations that you do!! Good Luck and can't wait to see before and after pictures!

Congrats!
No matter what the condition of the house I think the most diplomatic thing to do is not to inform the seller of your remodeling plans, especially when there is so much senitimental value attached to the house.
The house could be the biggest fixer-upper dump the world has ever seen but it still upsets most sellers. That's the POV I took with my house. It was GROSS but to the woman who lived here it was her home.
