We cashed in some change
My DH refuses to pay anything with change and by the end of the day it ends up all over the house. We'll we've been collecting for like 1 hr and recently made 2 trips to Commerce bank. 1 for $215 and one for $300. One more to go.

We have the same thing. The last time we cashed it in was right before the wedding and it was at $500 (about an eighth filled).
I've been thinking about getting something smaller for it though because it gets so heavy and it's hard to move. But I haven't yet.

Re: We cashed in some change
I love it! We have 2 "piggy banks" for DS, I keep a cup in my car, and we have a "vacation" jar. I LOVE when they fill up. I never use change. When the cashier asks "Do you have a dime (or whatever)," I feel bad saying "Nope, sorry". I want that change!

Re: We cashed in some change
We always keep our change in the jar. I usually pay with dollar bills just so I can get the coins. I am going to wait until next year to dump it out - right in time for vacation!

Re: We cashed in some change
Good for you!
We do that too, with my DH's pocket change.
We have bought:
-an air conditioner
-a lawn mower
-and most recently we used the $ when we had a tight month!
It adds up!

Re: We cashed in some change
where do you bring all this change to cash it in? I can't imagine bringing in a water jug full of change to a bank.

Re: We cashed in some change
DH's pockets are ALWAYS filled with changes. I'm constantly emptying them out. We've got a 'vacation jar' that is almost entirely filled up. I love cashing in. That's awesome for you!

Re: We cashed in some change
SWEET!!!!!! My DH has a water jug filled with $$ since before we got married. I has refused to touch it till "the right occasion", which is now a trip to Disney next March. He always throws his loose change in it or if it's on the counter, I throw it in my kids' piggy banks. I fill their banks with my spare change too and then empty it into a bigger container. My older son is DYING to go to Commerce bank to see what cash he's sitting on.
ENJOY your "found money"

That's how I do it. I drilled a four inch hole into the plastic container so that it pours easier. I go to Commerce once a year with it.

WOW AWESOME !
although spare change sitting around anywhere makes me nuts Im always the one cleaning it up or putting it away.. or spending it to get rid of it.. its almost like dustballs to me. valuable dustballs
my hubby NEVER uses change and is constantly DUMPING his change.

Re: We cashed in some change
DH and I started doing this when we were engaged. We brought some cash to our honeymoon. After we got married, we saved a jar from my bridal shower (an UTZ container) and started collecting again. A year and a half later, we were able to buy our dishwasher with the change. It's awesome. Now we use the credit card for everything, but we still collect loose change when we can.
