Water softener
Our new house has a water softener...
Apparently that's a good thing (and I DO like it for washing, less 'white residue' on clothes)
BUT
I hate the taste of it and I swear my hair is frizzier with softer water. I know you can't just shut off the softener, what do I do?
Is there anyway to just change the shower and sink/fridge water?
TIA!

Re: Water softener
Depending on how your pipes are run, it wouldn't be that difficult, or that expensive to have some of the pipes bypass the water softener.
I would think twice about bypassing the shower, though. Hard water really takes a toll on your hair, and you always have a film on you after you think you're clean. Plus, it will gum up the showerhead pretty quickly.
For a really cheap alternative, what if you get some really good filters, either the pitcher type that goes in the fridge, or a faucet filter. They are both really cheap, easy to test out, and if it works, it only costs $20 or so, plus filters. If it doesn't really fix the taste, it's only $20 or so....

Thanks...I guess a faucet filter is worth thinking about. The more I read it sounds like the softener is good for so many reasons...now second guessing 'shutting it off'. THANKS!
