Watch Missing-WWYD?
DH and I took the plunge and hired a cleaning lady. She has been here three times, comes every two weeks. She does a great job, came recommended by a friend. So far so good.
Here's the problem--a watch of mine has gone missing. It's a Skaagen, and not new, about 12 years old, not a cheap one, but a decent one. We turned the house upside down looking for it, and so far, nothing.
The one thing I will say is that I've been sick for about a month. I haven't been myself, and at times, I've been sleeping on the couch some nights when I wake up coughing to let DH get some sleep. So I haven't been wearing the watch every day, and I've been forgetful with some other things. I still wouldn't rule out the idea that I put it in some strange place and haven't unearthed it yet.
We have about another week and a half, but given that I noticed it was gone the day after she was here, I do wonder about the cleaning woman. So far not other missing items.
How would you handle this? I have no proof she took it, and I hate to let her go if I'm not sure, but we are suspicious.

Re: Watch Missing-WWYD?
Ask her if she saw it. Sometimes my cleaning lady puts things away in places I would never think to look.

I would ask her if she may have come across it and put it somewhere. I would also ask her to keep a close eye out for it, you can't seem to find it. Maybe if she did take it, she will bring it back after knowing you realized it was gone.

Re: Watch Missing-WWYD?
Thanks for the suggestions! I had not thought about asking her if she had seen it for whatever reason, but there is a good chance she saw it somewhere and moved it while cleaning.
I hate to jump to the conclusion that she took it, but no one else has been in our house recently. But we do have a 3 year old, and who knows, he may have put it someplace?
I think we have to give her the benefit of the doubt with this one, and then see if other things walk over time.

Re: Watch Missing-WWYD?
Honestly, if you feel that it went missing, then chances are it went missing.
We had hired a man for cleaning (through an agency) and after the first day, I lost a ring that I got as a wedding gift. I was not home, DH was there and he said I had probably misplaced it (and I do at times) but I was 100% sure that I didn't. I let it go.
We also started finding less coins in our change tray (I thought DH was using it and DH thought I was).
A few months down the line, my MIL needed someone to come quick and he offered to help with her ensuite bathroom after renovation, and that day her necklace went missing. She did not know about my ring either.
Long story short, DH had a letter opener, with some handmade carvings on it.. and it went missing. We were both home for this.. and we knew that this man had taken it.. so DH decided to ask him, and flat out lied to us. There was NO way, that letter opener could have been missing.. and that was it.. we cut our ties.

turn a clear glass upside down in the middle of your kitchen table. Seems to work for everyone in my family.
