Fairmont Georgetown. Great location, great hotel, reasonable prices.

We stayed at the Washington Hilton which is in Dupont Circle. It worked pretty well, there are restaurants around there and the subway. We only stayed there because we got either a huge promo rate through the hotel, or a Hotwire deal or something. Paid around $125 a night plus tax. Nice enough hotel, but not worth what they charge normally. Rooms were far and small.
I would say probably my biggest recommendation to save money is use a parking app on your phone and find a cheap garage. the Hilton charges like $55 a day for parking. I paid like $15 at a garage about 1/3 of a mile away. we unloaded, left the car in the loading zone dropped bags, then I parked the car and walked back. Yes not the most convenient, but saved $200 over the hotel rate. We parked the car for our entire visit and took the subway.

We stayed at the Westin Georgetown. It was awesome! Walking distance from the main attractions/good places to eat and pet friendly :).

I've stayed here as well and highly recommend.

We stayed here as well and while I liked the hotel and they had some great little restaurants around - I felt like the metro was kinda of a walk. And it wasn't too bad but after staying at other hotels that you can walk to the metro in 3 minutes - I felt like this one was kinda long. I stayed there for work so it was fine for me but I remember thinking I wouldn't stay there with the kids
