We are thinking of taking the kids in a few weeks for a long weekend. Any suggestions on places to stay, restaurants and must see things?
Kids are 4, 6, 8
Any advice is appreciated :)

Re: Washington, DC
i am a big fan of tripadvisor. Type in Washington DC and sort hotels by ranking. I usually do not go past the top 20. I also look at all the "traveler" pictures not pics by management.
With DC you want to stay in the touristy area because parts of DC are sketchy.

Re: Washington, DC
We stayed in the Dupont Circle area.
I loved it because it was more residental, but nice residential, not sketchy at all. It was nice and quiet and had some nice local places to eat, coffee shops etc
It was a quick subway ride to all the sites and museums, etc... and their subway system is so nice- much easier to navigate than nyc and SO much cleaner.

Re: Washington, DC
We were just there in Dec during Xmas with another family. Kids were, 6, 4, and 3. We stayed at Embassy Suites Convention Center right in the city. Walked everywhere from there! Great price, rooms are all big suites, they have a cocktail hour you get drinks for free and they have snacks too and their breakfast every morning was really great too and also included.
From there we did the Capital. We were able to get a tour. Kids had a good time bc it was a short tour. We did Air and Space museum, Natural History and a bunch others in that area part of the Smithsonian. We also did the gardens they loved. Of course saw the White HOuse, but it was closed for tours then and we walked to Lincoln Memorial Another day we did the Zoo and then just went swimming in the indoor pool. WE did one night at a really nice Chinese restaurant bc it was Xmas day. LOL! We did Carmines another night and a pub/grill kind of restaurant too. A lot of walking so brought a stroller, but it was great and we also lucked out with weather

Re: Washington, DC
We just came back and loved it!!!
Kids are 6 and 10. They both loved it.
We stayed at the Hilton Garden downtown - it was okay - I wouldn't stay there again. Good location but most definitely a 3 star hotel.
We ate breakfast at the hotel each morning which was good as it filled us up for a few hours.
We saw the White House, Lincoln Memorial, American History Musuem, The Capitol, Washingont Monument, Ford theater where Lincoln was shot and the boarding house across the street where he died, Madame Tassauds, the Zoo and Arlington.
Loved every place - Kids loved the lincoln memorial and Madame Tussauds ..DH and I were extremely moved when we visited arlington :( mind blowing how many people have lost their lives to war.
We parked our car and walked everywhere except for the Zoo where we took the circulator bus which stopped a couple of blocks from our hotel and dropped us about 3 blocks from the zoo.
Its a very nice city to walk around - the architecture is amazing..people were super friendly.
Loved it and most definitely want to go back during the spring or summer.

Re: Washington, DC
We live in the DC area.
W, Willard Intercontinental and JW Marriott are most centrally located (walking distance to Washington Monument, White House and the Mall where all the museums are).
National Harbor right outside of DC in MD has a lot of hotel choices too - Gaylord, Marriott, Aloft, etc.
