Washington DC

Has anyone ever stayed near the metro in either Old Town Alexandria or near Crystal City? Im seeing good prices on hotels for that area. We are going for a weekend the end of June. Prices for those areas are a little less than right in downtown DC and parking seems to be either free or more affordable than right in DC. Im just wondering if the commute into DC was a pain or not?

Re: Washington DC

I stayed in Crystal City once on business. It was very convenient from our hotel, which actually had a Metro station right in front of it that you could access from the under part of the lobby of the hotel! So, yeah, it was SUPER easy because of that and I really enjoyed staying there.

Geez - it was a Marriott, I know that much, it was large lol, it had an indoor pool - this is interesting - that had a gate to the outdoor pool, they were attached! And in the nicer weather they open up the partition and you can swim IN and OUT! That, I won't soon forget - cool feature.

I think it was, Gateway Crystal City Marriott or SOMETHING like that - google that and see if it comes up. ANY hotel within a block or two of that hotel will be RIGHT near the Metro stop because, like I mentioned, the Metro stop was actually accessible from inside the Marriott. So, if you can't get good prices there then check out one right near it and you should be good. If you can get good prices there, I highly recommend that hotel.

I was there on a four-day work conference at the end of this past September.

You just need to learn the Metro a little, which is super easy, and the different color lines and what to switch to get where you are going but the Metro Center is like the main hub and you can access most from there... once you look at the map, which you can access online ahead of your trip, it'll all make sense and it's the best system in the world, IMO. I love it.
