Washington DC
My BF and I are planning a trip around August to DC. I am a bit overwhelmed at picking out hotels and finding the right neighborhood that is safe, convenient, not too expensive, etc. Any BTDT advice?

Re: Washington DC
The last time I drove down to DC, I actually stayed in Bethesda, Maryland at the Hilton. It was walking distance to the Metro, and the hotel included parking in the price of the room.

Re: Washington DC
I went last year - not sure where we stayed but I don't think I'd go back.
I will tell you I had one of the best meals of my life at La Tasca We went to the one in Old Alexandria b/c I wanted to ride the King Street Trolley. It was just a bus!!! We did do some shopping on the way to the restaurant - a nice "main street" feel.
We also did the Spy Museum at night. That was fun. The tour at Ford's Theather was very interesting too. If you have the time, I'd go to the Holocaust Museaum too - it was so moving.

Re: Washington DC
Thanks for your replies! We'll probably be taking the train down, so we'd need something pretty accessible to transportation. We're thinking right now of staying in/near Dupont Circle.

Re: Washington DC
I agree with staying in Bethesda, Friendship Heights, or at the Mariott in Woodley (near the zoo). I would want to be on the red line. I used to live in DC and my brother/SIL live there now, so if you have questions feel free to FM me.

Re: Washington DC
i went there about 3 years ago and had such an awesome time. We stayed at a Marriot - which was brand new at the time, but was in a very shady neighborhood. However, I can say this, we went in September and it was still so hot!!!! so its probably going to be even warmer in August! We saw so many amazing things there, The Washington Monument (you need tickets, so buy them online or you have to wait on a first come first serve line at the 8am) So many awesome museums! We saw the zoo as well, but were a bit dissapointed since we expected more out of it but it fell short of our expectations - still a great time though. Try to stay somewhere near the transit line - its pretty easy to figure out. My only gripe with DC, the food - it was terrible. maybe it was just the places we picked (which it can't be 100% because we ate out breakfast, lunch & dinner and all of them sucked) so do your research on food!
