walkers
How many of you registered for one? My family swears by them and is horrified that i'm considering not getting one, but i've heard and read some research that suggests that infant walkers are likely to impair -- not foster -- an infant's motor and mental development. It found that kids who used walkers crawled and walked later than those who didn't.
Anyone else heard this? Will you use one?

Re: walkers
I have mixed feeling regarding these. But babies seem to love them. I'm more of a fan of the push cart type walking assistants. They seem like they are better! I also love the jumper ones, it helps with leg muscle development.

We just registered for an activity saucer and push walker. I read the jumpers aren't safe and the walkers hinder development, who knows if any of it is true.

This is true according to my daughters physical therapist and the Dr.s at the high risk clinic. Walkers and jumperoos should be avoided

Re: walkers
we are just going with the exersaucer. I was more worried about the walker for safety reasons. Also.... our house does not really have the open space for one.... LO would just be banging into walls or getting stuck on saddles and area rugs and scratching up the would floors.

Why jumperoos?

What is the point of an exersaucer? I don't really get them

This if you are lucky!!! It promotes them standing and they are fun to play with. There are lots of interactive items on them. They pull this, and push that. This parts lights up this part plays music.
Currently in my house they are being used for containment. Containing the twins!!! otherwise they go in different directions!

Re: walkers
My ped says no walkers, I've also read other places that they are not good. I never heard anything negative about jumpers though. DD had one, which is basically an exersaucer that they can bounce in. She never cared for it much though. I think she liked it for maybe a month and only for 5-10 minutes at a time. I'd love to hear why they say the jumpers are bad. . .

I am not 100% sure (since I can't remember anything lately) but I think I read something in the Baby Bargains book about safety issues. I will check when I get home.

Re: walkers
they are not a big deal, the babies love it and you as the parent just have to obviously keep an eye on them and block off stairs etc.
