waking up crying- please help me get some sleep
DS has never STTN but lately he's been waking up more often and crying. He used to wake up 1-3 times a night (not always crying) but he was sick recently and that messed everything up (not that I was happy waking up that often). The only way to get him back to sleep is to feed him. I'd love to get more sleep. Any advice? Btw, he's 8 months and getting his top teeth if that makes a difference.

Re: waking up crying
I wouldn't feed more than once a night at that age. For us, we decided only wake ups after a certain time (I think it was 2 am) would get feeding. Its no longer a physical necessity, so plenty of folks will tell you to cut them completely. I never had that much strength in the middle of the night.
I'm proud to report that both of my girls grew out of it eventually! Hang in there. Set rules you can live with and stick to them . No one knows what is right, so you just have to find a balance that works for you and not be deciding what to do in the middle of the night when no one has the ability to think straight!

Re: waking up crying
Have you tried CIO? I wouldn't do it while he has teeth coming in, but at 8 months he shouldn't be waking up so many times to eat. And hugs for you for having to get up with him so much!

I find that when I feed him he goes right back to sleep and I can put him back down. If I put the pacifier in or hold him and walk around the room he cries when I put him back down. What did you do to get him to go back to sleep without feeding him? I've never tried CIO....not sure if I'd have the will power

CIO was a part of it. At that age, it was also a division of visits between my husband and I. He did the non-feed visits, I did the food visits (since the food was attached to my chest that seemed less confusing for all involved.)

Re: waking up crying- please help me get some sleep
I swear by the book, "the baby sleep solution". I used it for both my kids and they sleep 12 hrs a night (sometimes 10.5-11) and they are both great nappers. DS 1 is almost 2.5 and he still naps 3.5 hrs plus sleeps from about 8pm-7:30am. DS2 is 9mos and he sleeps from 8pm-8am. I swear its the book!
It's an easy read not big, bulky and long. I have an extra copy. If you'd like you can have it. I can even mail it to you if easier. If it works for you, just pay it forward and give it to someone you know that may need it! :)
