Waking up at 3 am

DD is 6 months old and for the last week she has been waking up at 3 am. She is wide awake and ready to go. She wont go back down unless I take her downstairs and put her in her swing and then she will sleep until 5:30

She goes to sleep btwn 6-7

Should I just leave her in her crib at 3 and let her CIO?

Re: Waking up at 3 am

Is she hungry?? She could be going through a growth spurt.

Is she upset in her crib at 3?

Have you done CIO with her before?

She has been taking a bottle but, it's confusing bc she doesnt act like she's hungry. She acts like she wants to be picked up which I do and then she's fine. I will give her a bottle to get her back to sleep.

If I leave her be, she will whine.

We do not do CIO. I guess we sorta follow the ferber method on days its hard to get her down. We go in every 10-15 min and pat her until she tires and goes off.

Re: Waking up at 3 am

How old is she?

Sorry but I do not CIO at any age period. Just not in my blood to hear my child cry like that. But I think the general rules is not before 6months.

I do remember there was a stretch of witching hour months. she just woke up...

I also put her bed a little later to get more sleep on the back end LOL

For me the WHOLE first year was one I knew I lost before it even started. Before she was born I knew that year was going to be all about her. My sleeping, eating, dreaming and waking moments would all be dictated by the needs of one small being. I never let it bother me. Just figured it was a worthy trade for the days I know she'll not want to see me.

Good Luck

Re: Waking up at 3 am

personally, I did not let my 6 month olds CIO. If you have never really let her cry like that, I would not start in the middle of the night.
I would give her her bottle in the almost dark and put her back to bed. If you usually go in every 15 min, then do what you usually do.
How does she go down at night?

Do you want her to sleep later in the AM? If so then I would put her to bed a little later.

It could be her teeth also, but then again I have a lot of teeth happening in my house at the moment. I currently blame everything on teeth, with the twins getting their molars. LOL but it could really be her teeth.

I don't believe in CIO either in fact I dont let her CIO. She fusses and whines but thats it. For the past week, Ive been going to her at 3 and comforting her and bringing her back to bed with me or putting her in her swing. The main reason for my post is to try to determine the cause and see how I can help her since Im a FTM. I'm not complaining about the lack of sleep that I'm getting, I understand it comes with the terriritory and every monent I get with her whether its a 3 am or not I cherish.

Her getting up at 5:30 works for us because I work FT. Ive tried putting her down later and that backfires in my face bc then she is overtired. She is ready for bed at 6:30. She only naps 3 30 min naps a day so shes rubbing her eyes. I feed her her last bottle then rock her, she falls asleep and then I transfer her to crib.

This happened to me too at 6mos, my daughter would wake and I would give her a bottle and she wouldn't finish it but would go back to bed. When I looked it up it said that the baby is waking just to wake and they should not be hungry so I let her CIO it only took a few times and it worked she was back to STLN when I went to the doctor for her well visit the doctor was in agreement with what I did. At 7 months, last night was my first attempt at CIO. DD has been waking more and more and waiting for it to pass just didn't work. I fed her at 10:30 when she first woke. Two hours later when she woke again, I went in and rubbed her belly and talked to her for a minute, then left. I had to go in twice total before she eventually settled and slept the rest of the night. You have to do what works for you and DD. Chat Icon
