wait.... (laundromat question)
i have a laundry room in my apt complex...
is it normal for someone to take out my wet clothes from a washer to use it because they got there before me to empty it out?
i do not want someone else handling my stuff....

Re: wait.... (laundromat question)
yup-i'm afraid that's the norm. when I lived in queens- we used to wash our stuff at the laundromat--- if we were even 2 mins late ppl would move our stuff into a cart and let it sit there wet- or if it was in the dryer they'd put it in the cart and let it get all wrinkled. ppl don't want to wait and expect you to be there waiting for your stuff when it's done...

Re: wait.... (laundromat question)
It's the norm. I hate when it happens to me, but if the laundromat's really crowded and I'm really late getting back to it, I completely understand. When someone doesn't wait 2 minutes, though, I get .

Re: wait.... (laundromat question)
when i go to the laundromat, if there's no available washer, and i need a washer, i would go to a person that works there. they would be the one to take out the clothes

Re: wait.... (laundromat question)
when I used to have to go to the laudromat I hated when someone took out my clothes!!
I had someone use my laundry basket once. and when I confronted him, he said well I forgot mine.
Hey buddy, not my problem. I then proceeded to dump all his clothes on the floor....what a moron....

Re: wait.... (laundromat question)
When we were in an apartment complex, we knew exactly how long the cycles were, so we just set timers. When the timer went off, by the time we walked to the laundry room, we only had to wait a few seconds until the washer or dryer stopped. We never had an issue with our stuff getting pulled out by someone else.

Re: wait.... (laundromat question)
This happens to us... it annoys me when I'm 1 minute late getting to the washer and it's already out and on top of the machine....

I don't use a timer but I do keep careful watch of the time. If I get down there late and someone takes my stuff out, I apologize for being late.
If I get downstairs & someone else's clothes are done in the washer, I'll wait a couple of minutes then I'll empty the machine.
I don't take people's clothes out of the dryer and put a ton of time on my dryers so there's no way it would be an issue.
When you are sharing 6 washers & 6 dryers with 120 apartments, you need to be mindful of the time and that a lot of people are using these machines.

Re: wait.... (laundromat question)
Yep. It's normal. When I used to use the complex "Mat", I would find my clothes out of the washer. Then I started using the public "Mat" and I'd stay until the clothes were in the dryer..I'd set the dryer for a few "Extra" minutes in case I had a quick errand to run or I wanted to go visit my parents.

Re: wait.... (laundromat question)
I watch the time like a hawk..if i'm waiting, i have a 5 minute rule...5 minutes from when i get there..and sometimes things are sitting there when i get there..so...we only have THREE of each washer and dryer and the washers are small (for a 6 floor building, it's an abomination!) plus the cycles are insane, so I feel people have to really be fair when it comes to that..there have been times i've taken people's stuff out, done my entire wash (34 min. wash and 54, yes 54 min. dry) and their stuff is still sitting there..imagine if I waited...

Re: wait.... (laundromat question)
if there are no washers and i need one, i'll wait a few minutes (in case the cycle just ended and they are on their way to get the clothes) and then put the wet clothes in a basket.
i always get there on time to put my clothes in the dryer... and i would totally understand if i got there late and my wet clothes were on top of the washer. it happened to me sometimes in college.
