Wacky Landscaper situation

Last season we had a company, father and son team. We chose not to use them again for a few reasons. We still owed them a balance but hadn't received bills or statements in a while. I was paying them in large chunks periodically, not monthly.

The last statement I have is from July where I noted we paid xxx and owed xxx.

No other bills were sent. The family had some issues and they got really behind on the business.

They wanted payment and asked us to provide the amount from our bills. Well since I don't have any all I have is what I noted on the July statement.

I could have paid more but I can't find any other bills and frankly I shred everything and I paid them in cash so there really is no paper trail.

They said they sent us an invoice 4 times and we haven't gotten them. I get all of my other mail..the guy showed up today and DH was home. He wanted to know if we got the invoice.
What is really going on here? Do they think I will just hadn over a hunk of money?

Re: Wacky Landscaper situation

that's one of the reasons we aren't using them.

How do you expect to get paid when you can tell me how much I owe?

Re: Wacky Landscaper situation

We had a similar problem with our landscaper. Never billing us, then when we did get a bill it would be wrong. I paid them my last bill in the end of March, and they still haven't cashed the check! I know they must have gotten it, because along with the check I put in a note to cancel them for this year, and they haven't come so they must have received it. Billing issues were the main reason we cancelled ours also. Good luck in getting it resolved.
Our new company seems much better. Only been using them for 2 months, have received 2 bills already, and they have been right!

Re: Wacky Landscaper situation

since I had the only bill for the whole season which showed that I still owed them a certain amount as of July they want to go with that and then add on the additional 5 months of service.

Hmm..not convinced.

I think if you're paying cash, unless it's just poor accounting, someone is pocketing money & not recording it.

Re: Wacky Landscaper situation

I wish I had the records but I've always done it this way and this is the first time any landscaper has not recorded it.

I probably do owe them this but since I have no way to verify I think it's sketchy.
