Vicodin
So after seeing my 11th doctor for this excruciating sciatica pain, he tried to pull a fast one on me and said "I'm going to prescribe hydrocodone for you". Apparently he didn't know I had researched so much about pain management, so I raised an eyebrow and said "Vicodin?". He said yes, that it's category C, same as the other pain meds I've been taking.
Maybe it's just the name VICODIN that scares the living hell outta me...but I'm still deciding whether I'm going to fill it or not.
In other news, I'm scheduled for an open MRI next week. Yet another thing I didn't want to do, but they want to be able to tell if the disc in my back is herniated (very fixable) or ruptured (would need surgery).
I swear when comes out, I'm going to give her a big hug and a kiss, cry hysterically and tell her how sorry I am.

Re: Vicodin
I'm so sorry for everythign you have been going through.....Just remember what your Dr.'s said that it is better to get your pain under control so you aren't so anxious and stressed which also affects the baby.

Re: Vicodin
well, here's the reality of the situation...
think about pregnant women who are serious drug abusers.... I mean doing really hard-core stuff.... way worse than any prescription med.
most of them STILL give birth to healthy babies.
in all medical situations, it is always a cost/benefit analysis. you are in EXCRUTIATING pain. I know we all try to 'take one for the team', but seriously, having a major back injury while carrying a baby is way too much for one person to brush off.
Whatever you need to do to no longer be in agony, you really have to do. You're baby will benefit from the reduction of stress.... so don't feel guilty. it's just a bad hand of cards you've been dealt. It's not your fault.
lots of to you......

Re: Vicodin
I was on Vicodin for oral surgery before I found out I was pregnant. At the MOST crucial time for development- the first few weeks.
Grace is perfectly fine and your child will be too.
Edited to add: It doesn't seem like you have any choice- there is no way you can live with the pain you are in. I am so sorry you are dealing with this.

Re: Vicodin
for all the pain you are going through.
I agree with the PP who said that you absolutely cannot live with the pain you are in. As much as you are worried about the drugs, MRI, etc, the fact that you are this uncomfortable cannot be good for DD either! So, I would take care of yourself as best you can.
Hope you feel better soon.

Re: Vicodin
A lot of women do take Vicodin when pregnant. If you're in severe pain it's worth a try. Maybe if only at bedtime.
How would they fix a herniated disc without surgery? I had surgery on mine, nothing else worked.

Re: Vicodin
I also had to be on painkillers for awhile during my PG with DD#1. According to my OB, the stress from continuous pain is much more taxing on the fetus than class C painkillers are. The placenta filters out much of it.
BTW- DD is perfectly fine and is hitting all her developmental milestones.
