Vet references
Hi everyone-
My DH and I are looking into adopting a dog from a shelter. I've never owned a dog. My DH had 2, but got them as puppies when he was like 8 from a neighbors dog that had accidently had them and both of them have been dead for a while.
A lot of places want vet references. I dont even know what this means. Should we be interviewing vets?
We recently moved to Pittsburgh, if we were still on LI, one of our good college friends is now a vet, could she be a reference? Do they want the vet we would actually take the dog to? I'm clueless!
Thanks for your help!

Re: Vet references
I think when they're asking for vet references they mean the vet you intend to take the dog to.
We didn't have to provide a vet reference when we got Arnold from Kent, but we did have to provide 3 references for them to call and confirm we would be good to him.

I also would ask them if there is a vet they recommend. It is always good to have a vet reference ready when adopting, but for some shelters (especially high-kill shelters) it is not necessary as long as you show an interest in getting a good vet.
Good Luck
BTW, Pyxie's breeder is from the Pittsburgh area, if you want I can give you the contact info for her breeder, who's daughter is a vet
