versa tether? (Britax) picture added
anyone have the car seat rear facing and also using the versa tether system?
the car seat in the jeep works great, I can versa tether straight down to the floor of the jeep. But in my car I need to versa tether over the top of the car seat. Which I think that will make it difficult to put DS in the seat
I added this picture to help - does anyone use the versa tether this way? Image Attachment(s):

Re: versa tether? (Britax)
Why do you have to do it towards the back of the car? If you can secure the small strap to a stationary part of one of your front seats, that would work better. I thought I had to do the same thing with my DHs Explorer but we didnt have to as long as it wasnt on a moving part of the front seat.

Re: versa tether? (Britax)
Can't you tether it to the leg of the front seat? that's what we do. I use the little attachment and wrap it around where the front seat attaches to the floor and the hook the strap on to that. i don't think the tether is supposed to go over the top of the seat.

Re: versa tether? (Britax)
You should NEVER tether it to the front seat or any other part of the car that is not designed to hold it (i.e., that can move in a crash)!
Some cars have the spot on the floor in front so you can tether it when its rear facing. Mine does not. It should not go over the seat to the back.

Really? I only do that because that's what it said in my Marathon manual. It's still connected with LATCH to the back seat. The tether is just extra and it really keeps the seat from not budging an inch. Now that I've switched from the infant seat to the Marathon I really should go have the seat inspected again.

Re: versa tether? (Britax)
I attached mine to the base of the driver's seat, below the adjustment track, so moving the seat forward or back wouldn't interfere. It's OK to attach the tether to the rear of the seat that the seat is on, but it's better to attach it to the floor between the rear seat and the front seat. Just review the manual, and make sure what you are planning to do is OK in the manual.
When it comes to car seats, I don't take advice from people who don't have the same seat, because the rules for each seat vary quite a bit between manufacturers. Even between different models from the same vendor. Most car seats can't use the top tether at all when rear-facing. Others can't use the tether over the top of the seat rear-facing. Britax happens to have the extra strength and support to allow nearly any type of tethering.
I have a Britax Wizard and just ordered a Britax Boulevard, so I have some experience with Britax, but not with the Marathon.
Here's the Marathon owner's manual on-line: http://www.britaxusa.net/pdf/guide_marathon.pdf
Actually, after checking out the manual for the Marathon and the Boulevard http://www.britaxusa.net/pdf/guide_boulevard.pdf , I see that the Boulevard allows the tether to go over the car seat itself, while the Marathon doesn't.

You can absolutely attach it to the front seat but like you said, the part that is anchored, not the adjustable part. You use the connector strap (small strap), It definitely says so in the manual.

Liz, yes, your right, I should have been a little more specific. I was posting on the run this morning. I meant it should never be anchored to the seat adjustor thingy that moves when the seat moves. We do not have floor anchors there, so while the use of the tether while in the rear-facing position is optional in our case, we can and do have it attached using the tether connector strap. Sorry.....

Re: versa tether? (Britax)
I read in my manual that you can attach it to the metal parts of the seat that are bolted into the floor of the car.
I would like to know how you are supposed to use it in a ford escape. There are these things on the ceiling of the car in the back .... 3 of them .... they do move .... are they for the tether or something else? If they aren't for the tether, what are you supposed to use (when the seat is forward facing)

I don't believe you can do that with the Marathon. The pics in the Marathon owner's manual don't show that as an option. I think just the Wizard and Boulevard can do that. Double-check your manual, or check it on-line. If it doesn't say you can do it, defintely don't. Your DC can get hurt if the seat is tethered incorrectly.
The Wizard that I have *can* be tethered that way, but I was able to tether it to the floor by the front seat.

from the picture that just looks wrong, if not dangerous to have it over the seat like that.

Re: versa tether? (Britax) picture added
Ive seen that strap set up but Im not sure where. I never imagined it as workable.
Im not sure if you mentioned this at all..I didnt see that you did...why cant you secure it to one of the front seats to a non-moving anchored part of the seat? And if you can't....you can contact your car dealership and have an anchor installed. We did it with our 1999 Explorer when we needed to turn my son front facing - it didnt have an anchor to the rear of the seat so Ford was able to install one for us. They have to do it for you, even if you didnt purchase your car there.
