Verizon DSL
Anyone have this for computer service and can give me any pro's or cons about it?
We currently have Optimum through Cable and have never had a problem with it....But the Verizon DSL would give us a phone discount and is about $25 a month LESS then Cable.
But Im hesitant to change since we have never had a problem with the Cable ....
TIA

Re: Verizon DSL
I've had it for a couple of months now with no problems. I love it. I've heard it slower than cable, but I cant tell the difference. Plus the price cant be beat.

Re: Verizon DSL
I love it! We switched back in August & have not had any problems!
No cons in my opinion!
Pros: With FIOS our TV even looks clearer!
My internet service is rarely a problem!
I have a laptop that I primarily use, so it is fast!
I love getting ONE bill for phone, internet, TV & my cell phone because we have Verizon for all!!

Re: Verizon DSL
I had it several years ago and I hated it. It was constantly out, with no service for days at a time (this has NEVER happenned with cable) was often slower than dialup and their custimer service philosophy was just "speeds isn't guaranteed" and you have to pay a hefty fee to get out of the contract. I've heard it's improved, but it was such a nightmare that 6 years later I still cringe thinking about it

Re: Verizon DSL
As for the speed issue, it depends on how far you are from the CO (Central Office). You can call them and give them your address, and ask them what they estimate the speed at.
They still won't guarantee at that speed, but they should be able to give you a better idea than the standard advertisements where they will give you the top speeds.

Re: Verizon DSL
I used to have it & loved it. (The DSL, not the FIOS)
Uploading is slower than cable, but I never had a problem with regular use. I never had service interuptions.
My only problem was that when I moved it wasn't avaialable in my new area, so I arranged to cancel it on the same day as my phone service , but instea they cancelled it they day I calle d& couldnt' re-activate it for the rest of the week, which was annoying because we needed it to sign up for cable & do other moving related things.
We now have cable & it's awful--we have intermitten service & they can't seem to figure out why.

Re: Verizon DSL
well We would have no contract they said, its monthly anyway, so that was good.
I guess Im mostly worried then about speed of use as Im online sooo many hours a day and for work.

Same here. I've even had to call Customer Service a few times for some computer issues and they were great.
