Vent about being a 2 career family
PLEASE do no quote, I will be taking down.
DH and I both work and both love our jobs, maybe too much, but that is a post for another day. Our kids attend a fabulous daycare nearby, the one thing that is bad with the school is they close the last week and a half in June to transition to a camp. THis leaves us 8 days w/o childcare.
I teach and NEED to be at work on Friday to give my final. DH has known this for weeks now, that I needed that day. He works away from home and just told me he NEEDS to be upstate that day. Truthfully no job is more important, but this is a mjor problem.
My parents are already taking the kids for a couple of days this week and next and can't on Friday. DH's "solution" is to get a college girl he knows, an intern at his office, I believe to sit on Friday. She has experience, but it's a long day 7 am-2 pm or so.
I'm freaking out. I'm SURE she is fine, but I've never met her and hate to leave my babies with someone I don't know. DD escpecially isn't keen on new people.
I don't know what I want here, but I am crying over this and am so frustrated. DH puts so much of his time into his career, and here I am doing the same, but it's the one day I can't miss.
Grrrr.....full fledged panic attach

You're not a bad parent - you're doing what needs to be done for the sake of your family. It's safe to assume your DH loves your DCs as much as you do and would likely do all that is in his power to assure they're safety on that particular day that you need the young girl from his office.
HTH...

I wish I could help. I would take them in a second, but I know I cannot handle 5....I would say its one day and let the girl DH mentioned do it. Its actually not that long of a day and before you know it it will be half over, then over and you will feel better and also know that in case this happens again, which it is bound to, you can handle someone else watching them. So sorry Sam!

Thank you so much, Donna!
I just hate leaving my baby with someone new....I'm more pizzed at DH because he has known for weeks that this was the day I could not miss work.
Ugh, I usually love working, but this just complicates things.

Aww, Sam. I wish I could help but I work Fridays Then again, I am not sure Meagan would want me to watch her She seemed to cry whenever I held her.
I can't believe T has to be away Friday. Is he away until Friday or going up Friday for something? Is the intern the one I met? Or a different one? The one I met at Connor's party seemed really nice and could totally handle it.
I know your parents have been picking up the slack a lot, could they feasibly split the day with the sitter?
Also, does your school have any emergency day care? I have heard there are some places that can take kids per diem for these types of situations.
Ugh!

Sam I have a babysitter (niece actually) who lives close by and I could recommend to you - she's amazing with kids.
Either way I would try to have the person come over before they are going to actually sit, and meet your DCs.

Can you ask around at the day care and see if someone wants to sit for that day-one of your kids teachers may have off and want to earn a few buck?
