Hi,
DH and I are going to Venice next week. Any suggestions for a short visit there?
Thanks!

Re: Venice
we went on a tour of the Doge's palace and took a tour of murano, burano and torcello. we weren't there that long, so that's all we really got to do, besides St. Marks' square and just walking around! have fun!

Re: Venice
We were just in Venice so I will tell you some things we loved.
Our first night we got totally lost and wandered all over Venice--it was really incredible-so I recommend doing that.
We had the most fabulous meal at Corte Sconta. If you LOVE fish this is a must do. It is a little pricey but again if you like different, shell fish, lots of food, good wine...do it! The dessert was also the best we had in Italy.
Near our hotel (and close to San Marco) there was a little bar called Bar Risorto..it was a hole in the wall--with the best prosecco and "Spritz" drinks (made with processco, Aperole, and a splash of soda) it is open to the street and perfect to cool off and people watch.
Walk along the Grand Canal-and if you are buying any Murano glass or souveniers right over the Rialto Bridge has the best prices we saw.
ENJOY

Re: Venice
Like the above poster said you really need to just walk and get lost in the city of Venice. It is a total walkable city. See St Marks square of course, but then walk and walk and walk! You will come across so many great shops, quaint places to stop and eat and many interesting people. There are so many bridges all over and its fun to find one where you are the only person on it! Many tiny narrow streets too. You will love it. Just walk and explore and take it all in. Venice was one of my favorite cities in Italy. The entire time seems surreal. Oh and take a gondola ride if you have time, thats just a must!

Re: Venice
You really only need a day or two in Venice. 2 is plenty and you can see everything. You can also go to the island to watch them make glass Get lost as other posters said. DH and I had the best time walking all over the city. We took pics of us walking in allies that are so narrow the two of us couldn't walk next to each other and we're both small. Take a godalla (sp) ride. We had a great guy tell us sooo much about the city and I asked a million questions so he didn't sing, but other guys did.
We stayed a night at a hotel right near St Marks Sq. Looked like a Brothel DH and I were hysterical and the key to the room was huge. Don't feed the pigeons. they'll be all over you! LOL

Re: Venice
We are thinking of taking a cruise out of Venice next summer an spend a day or so exploring Venice before. Where would you suggest staying that is within walkable distance to what you want to see but won't break the bank? Eva
