Veneers - Pros and Cons?

Hi ladies -

Just finished Invisalign (I had braces when I was 16, but never wore my retainer, so all my spaces came back). I was told before I started the Invisalign that it wouldn't be 100% effective in closing the gap between my lateral incisors and canines, which it didn't. I am considering getting veneers to close the gaps, but wanted to hear the pros and cons from those of you who have them.

I have healthy teeth, they are just a little spacey, so I don't want to get veneers put on if they are going to be a pain and cause me problems.

Thanks for any advice!

Re: Veneers - Pros and Cons?

i wouldnt get veneers if you didnt need them.
i have my front four done and they look great but its a pita.
i had a space and major discoloration and broken chips in my front teeth due to sports and tmj and i had to get somethng done bc i looked like a hillbilly lol

its verrrrrry expensive. you cant eat like a normal person...no biting into soft breads...biting into apples etc. bc they can pop off.
if they pop off and break you gotta pay. if they pop off and are okay they can adhere them back on but in the meantime you are left with a nub of a tooth until you can be seen by the doc.

i do have a great doc in smithtown who did two of mine and redid the other two and no one knows!!!!

Re: Veneers - Pros and Cons?

I've had veneers done 20 years ago and they are great. I have no issues biting into anything. I've never had an issue.

They are pricey but it was one of the best decisions I've made.

I think you should go for it if you are really unhappy. I never smiled until I had it done.

They have worn over the years but they still look great and very natural.

eta: if you had veneers pop off and break, they weren't done right. Go to a dentist that specializes in cosmetic dentistry. Not all dentists do this. I happen to have a great doc do mine. He was truly gifted.

My neighbor just had them done and I had no idea until she told me. They look so natural and she is so happy that she got them. I don't know what she got them because her teeth looked good before.

I had one crooked tooth and decided to get it fixed (veneer). You cannot tell which tooth is the veneer...and i never had a problem biting into anything with it. One tooth ran me $1100, so if you have a bunch to do, it can get pricey.

Re: Veneers - Pros and Cons?

i had my 2 front teeth done in 2007 by a cosmetic dentist up here in CT.

i absolutely love them

i eat whatever i want without issue - apples, crunchy bread etc.

no one knows they are veneers..its really amazing.

i think i paid about 3000 for both.

I should have mentioned this. It was 20 years ago and he has since retired. He sold his practice to my current dentist and although I love him I haven't seen any cosmetic work he has done. You could call there and talk to them. Very nice there and willing to work with you.

Let me know if you need the info.

wow, I've never heard of that. The material used on veneers is a composite of what the space shuttle is made of.

At least that is what I was told when I got mine done. 20 years and I do grind my teeth. Why you are tough on your choppers.
