veins?

a whole bunch of purple veins are now visible (and not pretty) in my left leg. my right leg has none. im assuming they are related to the pregnancy but i didnt have this with my first pregnancy . i am 19 weeks and gained 6lbs total ~ with my first baby i was gaining weight at a much more rapid pace.

is this normal? do they go away after the baby is born? did i do something to cause them? can i do something to make them go away?

any advice is appreciated.
thanks

It's not from anything you did, and there's nothing you can do right now to make them go away.

I had the same problem. I gained about 25lbs my entire pregnancy, and I was extremely thin when I got pregnant, so it's not always associated with weight gain (though it can be). It can also be because of where the baby is lying.

It was one of the things I HATED about being pregnant, especially in the summer. Pretty sure I cried several times because I was embarrassed (though I had many other painful complications too).

I can tell you, I woke up the morning after my LO was born, looked at my legs - and they were all gone!

veins?

I have those lovely veins, purple & blue. Mine are mostly spider veins near my ankles. I have a raised one on my left calf. I had them a lil bit (hereditary) before pregnancy & they got worse around same time you mentioned. I'm active before and during pregnancy but they still persisted. Dr said they shld fade after pregnancy & that because Im "older" (40) I'm more prone.
I do find compression stockings work pretty good but you have to wear them as soon as you get up on am. With warmer weather now I have not worn them..I have 12 days till my due date & Im not caring much about what my legs look like. They wont go away with the stocking but it helps .. also put your feet up when you rest.. the blood get down the leg but has a hard time getting back up.

Re: veins?

OMG I had the WORST veins. They were all over my legs. I looked like I got bruised with a bat in certain spots! I was so afraid that they would stay forever. Like the previous poster said, I woke up the day after delivering and they were gone! It was just from the pressure of my uterus on my veins! Hang in there!
