Vegetable gardeners...come in

So now that the season is coming to a close how did you do? Lets share our successes & failures.

My best crop & most enjoyed was by far my tomatoes, we also had a ton of lettuce that finished up by mid-july that we enjoyed. I have another fall crop of lettuce going now. My zucchinis were great but I got root rot & lost the whole crop within a day or two of the symptoms. My cucumbers grew like crazy-too many to eat & we gave alot away.
Not so hot this year in my garden-beans, for some reson they just never got going. My cornfield was a flop too, it didn't get enough sun.
All of my herbs including the more gourmet varieties I added did well.
Our pumpkin plants are out of control, but we only have one pumpkin so far, we had three but two turned brown right away. I'm battling powdery midlew now on the pumpkin plants & I seem to be winning.
In my raised beds my use of compainion gardening to keep out the bad bugs worked great. At had at least three praying mantis' living in my garden all summer, the ladybugs stayed for a few weeks & them they were gone. Overall I did great with pests(or lack of pests).
Next year I'd like to step up my organic disease prevention.
On my list for Spring is to have more of my neighbor's tree climbs cut to create more direct sun. We are also adding one more raised bed box.

The only thing that did good was our tomatoes and cucumbers.

This was the first year in the house

our herbs did great, so did our cucumbers and eggplant

our squash got a root rot and died pretty quickly. We did get a few good ones before.

Re: Vegetable gardeners...come in

i only had success with my cherry tomtoes i used containers- kinda on the small side and i think it was just too small for anything else. next year im plaining on expanding to plan in the grounds. I moved in in March of this year so i feel like i didnt have enough time to setlle in and really think about things.

Re: Vegetable gardeners...come in

Best crops: bush beans, collard greens (they're still going strong and our 2 tortoises love it), San Marzano plum tomatoes, various lettuce crops & herbs (basil, parsley, mints, oregano, etc), peppers.

Worst crops: cucumbers, beefsteak tomatoes

Dissapointing crops: cherry tomatoes - not as many as usual but still delicious, mortgage lifter tomatoes.

Next year we'll move the garden around, hopefully that will help the cucs...and I'm giving up on super, large tomatoes.

Our green beans, snow peas, tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers all did amazing.

Our only flop was the corn and we think an animal got to it. One day it was booming, the next it was trashed.
