Vegan or Non-dairy moms, please help
I am starting to think that DD is having an issue with dairy since she has reoccurring diaper rashes (bad ones) since I stopped BF'ing and switched her to whole mile. We first thought it was citrus fruits so we cut those out of her diet, then tried cutting out acidic things like tomatoes. Nothing seems to be the answer and it's definitely not related to changing her diaper, we are definitely on top of that. I have heard from a few people that dairy can be a culprit for diaper rash so we want to cut that out and see if it helps. DD is only 14 months and is very tiny, less than 5th percentile for weight. Her ped says he doesn't think it's the dairy and doesn't think we should cut it out since she is so tiny and needs the cals/fat. I still want to attempt and see what happens. He said I need to find something that is going to be a comparable replacement for whole milk. I have been researching and it doesn't look like soy or almond milk will be a good enough replacement. I was thinking of doing half one of those and half coconut milk since it's really high in fat/cals, if she will drink it. I still need to do research since I see there can be some cons to coconut milk too. Im hoping someone out there can offer some advice on what we could do.

Re: Vegan or Non-dairy moms, please help
Does she eat watermelon or strawberries? I noticed that my son would get crazy rashes from that, also mandarins.
As far as dairy, my oldest DD has a dairy allergy but never drank regular milk. First I put her on soy and now at 6 she drinks Almond milk. If you are concerned, try taking her to the allergist and see what he says.
Try also using vaseline between every diaper change and see if that helps. Also, did you switch diapers? All three of my kids were allergic to Huggies.

We have seriously tried eliminating all different types of food and can't pin it down. We are actually really proactive and put A&D cream in every diaper, just as a barrier. We have also tried different types of diapers, nothing helps

DD was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy as an infant. For now, she is staying on formula (she's almost 13 months). Her GI's office didnt want soy or almond milk because they are much lower in calories. They made it sound like coconut milk was too, but I didnt research it myself. The nurse recommended a drink called Bright Beginnings Soy, which is higher calorie. It is sold on amazon, in cans. we aren't trying it yet, but it's good to know that it's out there,

Re: Vegan or Non-dairy moms, please help
We went to Soy milk on recommendation of our ped and will try regular milk again in a few months. My DS has had dairy protein intolerance since around 12 weeks of age causing excema, diaper rash and bloody poop (when it was really bad). Soy milk has the highest calories (from both fat and protein) of the 3 most popular milk replacers (soy/almond/coconut milk). Almond milk is essentially all sugar, low fat/protein, and coconut milk has lots of fats but no protein/few sugars. Both almond and coconut milk are only around 60-70 calories per cup vs 120 for soy or 150 for whole milk. Good luck, rashes are so frustrating!

How about doing Almond milk with a tablespoon of a healthy oil (sometime like Flax oil) to add an extra 120calories to her bottle/cup of milk. My daughter is on whole milk, but the nutritionist still has us adding oil to her whole milk to even boost up those calories. She is significantly underweight, not even on the chart.
