Vacuum recommendations, please!

I have a Kenmore Whispertone Canister Vac and it's having some issues lately...
What vaccums are the best for wood floors and carpets and kinda lightweight to carry up/down stairs?
TIA!

We have the Shark. It is lightweight and so far works very well. I've only had it for a little over a year though. The one thing that is annoying though is if I am vacuuming my bedroom rug where a lot of my hair is (I blowdry in one particular spot), I have to keep cleaning out the bristles underneath or else it doesn't pick up all of the hair. I guess if you have a pet, I might not recommend it in that circumstance. Otherwise, it really does work great!

My dad works for Sears and says Dyso is overrated and they get many returns on them.

I LOVE my canister Kenmorre, especially for the hardwood floors.

If you don't want to spend the money on a dyson - we have the bissell Lift off - and it works great - we have two cats and stairs - the canaster lifts off and is light and easier to do stairs etc.

My mom liked it so much she bought herself one - she also commented that it is light and easy.

We have the Shark too and I really like it. It is a great price too for a canister vacuum. Though, I do agree with you on the hair.

We rec'd the Shark Canister vac for our wedding and I returned it after one use. It didn't seem to do well on the carpet in our opinions. It just rolled over the carpet and didn't move the pile at all. Good besides that though.
