vaccines

*These are so rare that it is hard to tell whether they are caused by the vaccine.

Re: vaccines

The site the article is on is hugely ANTI-vaccine so I would take it from where it's coming from.

If you are worried, discuss with your doctor.

ETA- from the ACTUAL CDC article:

"Experts disagree on whether whole-cell pertussis vaccine causes lasting brain damage, but agree
that if the vaccine causes such damage it does so only rarely (7 )."

Link to Study- the part I posted is right in the intro

Also from the article- the DTaP vaccine, which is what our children get, was developed BECAUSE it is safer than the whole-cell pertussis vaccine. (also right in the intro).

Re: vaccines

Any drug you take could potentional cause some rare, damaging side effect.
You have to weigh the benefits vs the risk.
I am sure the side effects of a having pertussis or measles, mumps or rubella are much worse and more common than the side effects they discuss here from the shot.

This is true but the fear is this... even if only .0001% have a fatal reaction it is scary if its YOUR child that makes up that precentage.

but no drug is 'fool proof' you just have to take your chances and hope for the best.

The same could be said abut Tylenol. Every drug is a risk. Every single one. Its scarey to think your child could be the .0000001%. YOU could be the same with the same tylenol you take.

As Nell said above "You have to outweigh the benefit vs the risk."

The anti vax movement scares the living piss out of me.

Yes that is true. Absolutely.
However, I think the risk of a child getting seriously ill or even dying from a disease because they weren't vaccinated against it- is probably even higher.
Hence the risk/benefit factor.

Im not disagreeing with you. Same could be said for driving your car or walking out your front door. Can't live in a bubble.

That said, I cringe when people brush it off as such a 'small precentage' because if your child is that precentage it is scary. But AJ is vaccinated. All of them. Minus the flu. Just spread out so *I* could judge the reaction of each.
