Vacation Help: Myrtle Beach and other ideas
I am starting to look into a summer vacation for this year.
Myrtle beach came to mind...Has anyone been there? What is there to do with young kids (DSs will be 4 and 1) would you recommend it? any info is helpful...
Any other suggestions are welcome as well! I am looking for something that has plenty to keep us entertained but will also be more laid back and relaxing.
I just know I dont want to do anywhere that the kids need passports, and dont want to do Disney this year. And although DS wants to go again, I dont want Hershey/DW. Did that last year!
Thanks!

Re: Vacation Help: Myrtle Beach and other ideas
My parents live there but we stay pretty low key when we visit. There is a big shopping area called Broadway at the Beach (not actually on the beach) and that has some things for kids to do. They have Build-a-Bear, Aquarium, movie theater, some small rides, feed the fish off of bridges that go across some small ponds. There are plenty of restaurants there including Margaritaville. There's also a water park across the street from that but we have never gone.
Then of course there's the beaches. We go really early when we visit because of the heat.

Re: Vacation Help: Myrtle Beach and other ideas
We have a condo there. We spend most of our time by the resort pool since DS doesn't like sand. We do go to Broadway at the beach as well DS loves margaritaville.
We also like brookgreen gardens which is a little south. They have a small zoo.
There is a nice playground and walking area by the Market Common and there are numerous water parks and small amusement parks.
DS is 2 and has been three times and loves it.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Market Commons. They've really built that up to be beautiful with walking areas & shopping too. I remember before they undertook that whole project it was barren in there.
Too bad Hard Rock amusement park couldn't make it. They opened and closed within a season.

We went for their soft grand opening (that's whatbsomeone we were talking to called it) and it wasn't that great. The price was $$$ and there weren't a lot of rides. We paid $110 to walk in the door between parking and admission and not all of the rides they had were even open. We rode the main rollercoaster 5 times and were out of there in two hours including having lunch.
Dh was going to write and complain but they went bankrupt before he had a chance to.

Off-topic but I'd love to hear a review of Wrightsville with kids. We're between there, Hilton Head and Bald Head Island for next summer.
