UTI question

My doctor just called me and told me I had a bad UTI, but what is odd is that my appointment was 2 weeks ago, so basically I have had it for a while unmedicated. Is this very harmful to me or the baby? Also, I don't have the normal UTI symptoms, just some bladder discomfort, but I have had that every day since I got my BFP 5 months ago! Is this normal?

Re: UTI question

I don't think it's harmful yet, you'd probably be in more pain if it was, just take your antibiotics and you'll be fine. I had 2 of them early on.

Re: UTI question

I think you're ok--I had one get REALLY bad in a short amount of time...so bad that I was bleeding when I had to pee (sorry, TMI). You'll be ok, just start taking the antibiotics ASAP!

Re: UTI question

Def. take meds! I had a really bad one with no symptoms and spent a little time in labor and delivery for preterm labor because of it!

Re: UTI question

I am the pregnant UTI queen having had one from week 10 to week 22. You are fine. Unless you are in extreme pain, no worries. The threshold for what is considered a UTI in pregnant women is much lower than in non-pregnant women. Even a minute amount of bacteria is considered an infection where as if you were not pregnant they wouldn't even worry about it. The reason for this is that if the infection gets to your kidneys it could cause premature labor. As long as you are on antibiotocs and feeling good, then I am sure you are fine. Just make sure to drink lots of water on the meds!!
