UTI but no symptoms??? *update*
I just get a message from my drs office, of course I missed the call, telling me my urinalysis from November 22nd came back showing a UTI......she calls me NOW???? and now the office is closed. She tells me to call back for a Rx for antibiotics but nobody is in the office now and I am totally freaking out. I have no symptoms and I'm worried it might harm the baby....Is this normal? will the antibiotics hurt the baby?
**update**
Finally spoke to my dr. again, turns out there was a mixup, someone else in her office with the exact same name as me has the UTI, not me. The other woman is a 76 year old. I'm so glad I refused to take the meds and questioned her a few times. Something just didn't seem right to me. I think it's time to hyphenate my last name with my maiden name....my DHs last name is way too common.
And she apologized a million times for the mixup and for worrying me for no reason..

Re: UTI but no symptoms???
If they are antibiotics prescribed by your doctor I would assume she would give you safe ones to take while pregnant.
What I would want though, is another test... because almost a month has passed by and if your symptoms haven't worsened then perhaps the infection is out of your system.

Re: UTI but no symptoms???
I agree with getting another test done before taking any antibiotics, however UTI don't usually clear up on their own. As for antibiotics themselves there are one you can take during pregnancy. I had a UTI when I first got PG (probably from all of the ) I did not know it and was put on antibiotics for 7 days and it cleared right up. Not taking antibiotics for a UTI can be more harmful for LO then taking them.

Re: UTI but no symptoms???
Thanks girls....I better get her on the phone tomorrow morning or I will go there and raise hell, i'm so annoyed that I get called a month later. I have my regular scheduled appointment on Wednesday so i'm sure she will take another urine sample at that time. I just want the UTI outta here.

Re: UTI but no symptoms???
I would call the emergency line.....results from November 22nd...that is ridiculous and I would not tolerate it...
I was in the hospital on friday and told I had a severe uti....strange cause no burning when I peed, and I was actually going MUCH less frequently (not even waking at night). Put me on antibiotics.....found out weds I never had a uti

Re: UTI but no symptoms???
That is terrible that they waited that long to tell you. I would flip out on the office.
I would def call the emergency line, so that they can call you in a prescription right away. There are antibiotics that are safe to take during pregnancy for uti's.
Sorry.

Re: UTI but no symptoms???
Wow that's crazy. I've had three UTI's (never while pg) and believe me, I knew it. Some of the worst pain I've felt in my life. My legs would actually shake while I was going to the bathroom, it hurt so bad.
On the one hand, I'm glad you're not feeling any of that but on the other, I'm annoyed for you. That was a month ago. I would trust my doctor if I were you, but I'd definitely want to talk to a live person and have it explained fully.

Re: UTI but no symptoms???
Yes. I had a UTI when I went into labor with DS. I had no idea. They had checked my urine in the hospital because I had really high blood pressure and they wanted to make sure there was no protein in my urine. I had no clue that I had a UTI.

if they do, i would leave a message for the on call dr.
Unfortunately they don't. I'm really thinking about switching doctors, this is just unacceptable to me. She doesn't even give an emergency #, her answering message says to go to the hospital if there is an emergency, what the hell is that?
I'm upset bc I really like my dr. and I'm wondering if this was her or her office staff that never called me. A month later is just not normal at all. And at 25 weeks pregnant can I even get a new doctor???

if you're not happy, then i don't see why you can't switch doctors even at 25 wks. your current practice can fax over your records to the new practice.

Re: UTI but no symptoms???
Apparently I have a UTI as well and didn't know. I called to get the results of my glucose and they told me I am anemic and have a UTI. I said if I have a UTI wouldn't I know it and they said not necessarily. Anyway...I would be really ****** to know that they waited so long to call and tell me.
If you feel like switching doctors then you should do it. But fist I would talk to her on Wednesday and ask why they waited so long to call because that is unacceptable.

Re: UTI but no symptoms???
I was able to get her emergency # and I called and she called me right back which was a plus! She called in the Rx for me right away and when I said why did it take so long for her office to get back to me she was confused and said "you were here last week" I said "I was there last month" she said she just got the lab results, I said that doesn't sound right. She wasnt in the office with my file so we couldn't get into it but I am calling in a little while when her office opens to verify the results and that it was in fact my result that she is reading, I'm wondering if some paperwork was mixed up and put in my file (her office has become incompetent) or if her staff never put the results in my file for her to contact me?? I didn't go pick up the Rx yet, I'm going to wait for her to fax me my results before I swallow any pills.
Thanks for your concern girls. I go in on Wednesday for my 25w check up so I will be discussing a few things with my dr. and if I'm not happy with her answers I will be looking into a new dr.

Re: UTI but no symptoms???
Lots of times they claim you have a UTI when in actuality you don't. At a doctors office if you have any white blood cells in your urine and a few bacteria they will often tell you that ab's are needed. It is normal to have WBC's and some bacteria in your urine.. It comes out of your vajay which is not a sterile place. I wouldn't be overly concerned if you have had no other syptoms (burning/inc. freq. etc). A urine culture is really needed to rule out an asymptomatic UTI. Just call your doc when they are open and see if you can submit a new sample

OH MY GOODNESS!!!! That's TERRIBLE that they made a mistake like that, same name or not! I'm so glad you were diligent about checking and verifying and didn't just listen to them when you felt that something seemed wrong about this.
So glad you're ok!!! You shouldn't have to change your name to get accurate health care, but maybe it would be a good idea. Ick. I'm still in shock over this!

I'm definitely upset about the "mix up". Don't drs look at DOBs anymore, I was so peed off at the dr. I'm still gonna give her a piece of my mind when I go in on Wednesday for my check-up.

Wow. If they called you thinking you were someone else, then they might have prescribed you meds that were not safe for a pregnant woman. That's so scary.
I'm glad you're okay.

ITA!! That is a big mix up. Thank goodness you didnt start taking anything.
I'm glad you dont have a UTI.
In my practice I go to there are a few patients with my same name too. I always have to remind them to check the b-day...which is annoying.
