Using tragedy for gain..
This is totally my fault for not asking....
He's been depressed all week over my SIL's health. So when he called me & sounded a little happy, he happened to be standing in front of Murphy's Music. He said "Hey! I'm so happy...(huh??)..they have the amp I was outbid on ebay. What do you think?" So without hesitation, I say "Sure...go ahead. If it will make you happy."
So when he came home, I said "Oh how much did that cost? $800?" Nooooo....I was off by 3x the amount!
Next bad thing that happens, I'll be calling him from Tourneau.

Oh MY!
What kind of Amp was it? The most expensive Amp DH has bought so far was just about $500 .... but he doesn't have a band or anything --- he just plays in the house and occasionally with friends.

I would tell him that the thing better make him sound better than any Stones AND Beatles performance combined and #1 record better be in the works.
DH has an off-white one too but I doubt it costs anywhere near that much. DH is a musician too but he's not addicted to equipment.
I'm thinking he could have gotten a much better deal elsewhere.

Not a chance I'm going to tell him to return it with his sister on life support. I just think his timing was impeccable when he asked.

Re: Using tragedy for gain..
My Dh plays guitar and all of the "accessories" are astronomically priced.
If you guys can swing it and it makes him happy, why not? I do agree with calling him from Turneau next time or maybe Tiffany's

Wow I would be so mad!!!! If my DH bought something that expensive with out full detail I would kill him and he would be returning it. For that kind of money spent it should be something useful for everyone....furniture, a home improvement, a vacation, etc...

I know I shop when I am sad...if this makes him feel better, I would probably eat it. I did when his sister messed with us when I got PG, he got $500 Bose speakers out of it...
to you and your DH, I know you're going through a lot.

OMG
I had no idea it was that bad.
ETA: You know I'm not into extravagance... Ten years ago when an ex-BF crushed my heart and lit it on fire I went to Fortunoff's and bought myself a ridiculously expensive watch... about 3 weeks pay. I really was a MESS emotionally. I wore the thing for about four days... I swear I think it cost more than nearly everything else I owned put together at the time... then I must have snapped out of it and said to myself... "Where do you think you are going with a watch like that, T?" I returned it and got my money back.
When life throws us a big blow, temporary moments of insanity are somewhat expected
