US consumer confidence slips in January from 15-year high
https://apnews.com/ce9b31d8356b40fa8bb8c4bb884a66f0/US-consumer-confidence-slips-in-January-from-15-year-high
WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. consumer confidence slipped this month after surging to a 15-year high in December.
The Conference Board, a business research group, says its consumer confidence index dropped to 111.8 in January from a December reading of 113.3, which had been the highest since August 2001.
The index measures consumers' assessment of current conditions, which improved in January, and their expectations for the future, which fell.
Americans were somewhat less optimistic about the outlook over the next six months for business conditions, jobs and prospects their own incomes will rise.
Economists closely monitor consumers' mood because their spending accounts for about 70 percent of U.S. economic activity.
Americans overall have been in a sunny mood since the Nov. 8 election of Donald Trump ended a divisive presidential campaign.

  The honeymoon is over....

Re: US consumer confidence slips in January from 15-year high
In 2007, not long before the 2008 financial crisis, Trump said he was "excited" for the housing bubble to crash.
"People have been talking about the end of the cycle for 12 years, and I'm excited if it is. I've always made more money in bad markets than good markets."
He also sang a similar tale on CNN in 2004.
"I love bad markets. You can do very well in a bad market."
And in 2006, he said in a Trump University audiobook, "I sort of hope" the market crashes.

Trump is the devil with a bad spray tan. Of course he finds joy in others misfortune. He will truly be a billionaire from his presidency.

Remember, he is a businessman. They wanted a businessman. Businessmen love bad economies when they can profit from it. They wanted a businessman

The great majority of business do not do well in a down market. Some wealthy individuals and smaller financial firms will do well but overall it's not a good situation for anyone. He was an individual looking to grow his own portfolio. Most people in his position would have felt the same, even if they didn't say it. I'm not sure what your definition of a "businessman" is but most people with careers in business do not favor down markets.
