upgrading flight with milies
Has anyone used delta skymiles to upgrade an economy class ticket to first class? If so, how do you do it?

We've done it. But you can't buy the cheapest economy fare...certain classes (tickets with Y, B or M - i believe).

It depends on the airline and the ticket you purchased. I've done it several times, but it's not so easy.
You usually cannot buy the cheapest economy seat AND you won't know if you got the upgrade until 24 hours or less prior to departure. Each airline has it's own rules though and they are very confusing.
