Updated: Should I drop DD nap ( 2 years 8 months ) She is staying up so late!
Not sure what to do here. It does seem like she still needs to nap, she is so cranky by 5pm if she doesn't get one. Lately she has been struggling to fall asleep and staying up until 930-10pm wakes at 630-7. Normally she was going to bed between 8-830 and waking between 630-7. I have no down time in the evenings. Should I just stop napping her? Her naps are 1-330.
Update. I tried to get her to nap around 1230 and she just couldn't fall asleep. So we kept her up and she went to bed at 630...Im hoping she sleeps through until 630-7. She was fine all day with out her nap. A little tired but no meltdowns. I will update tomorrow. Thank you everyone for your help.

Hmmm... my DD is 3 and doesn't usually nap anymore, but kind of still needs one to be pleasant all day. She fights sleep when she gets one though. She napped regularly until about your DD's age. It is up to you -- if you want her up late, I would say keep the naps. I would rather have my DD go down at like 7-730 and have my evening, and just deal with her int eh day.

My 3 year old still takes an afternoon nap. He goes to bed late (rarely before 8:30/9), but he has always slept closer to 10 or 11 hours at night. Can you try to put DD down for a nap earlier than that?

I'd start the nap at 11:30/12.

This is similar to DS' (3 also) schedule. Before you drop her nap, I would see if an earlier nap time works. Try for as close to noon as possible.

my dd dropped napping by 2! The only way I was able to get her to nap was in the car. Now at 2yrs 8 months I rather no nap at all for the same reasons...no nap in bed by 8/8:30 if she naps 9/9:30+

Re: Should I drop DD nap ( 2 years 8 months ) She is staying up so late!
I can only say that by 3yo (dont remember exactly how old we dropped it) but DS had stopped napping. We had the same issue....he would be up for 2 hours extra at night if he napped that day. I noticed on days he didnt nap, bedtime was a breeze and he was asleep in 5 minutes, on days he did, it was a struggle for 2 hours!
So we dropped his nap and moved up his bedtime 30 minutes.
What i did instead, was we had quiet time. He had to go to his room every day at the same time as nap time for the same duration (90 minutes) he could play, read books, I would give him his portable DVD player and he could watch movies, etc. But he had to be "quiet" Still gave mommy (who was pregnant) and DS our much needed break. We stopped quiet time when DS2 came and our schedule was shot to S@#t.

Our DDs are the same age, mine gets super crabby by 3/4 without a nap. I try and get her in by 12:30, 1 the latest. She naps for about 1:30 to 2 hrs and goes to bed about 8 and generally sleeps to 8. Maybe change around your night time routine so she's ready for bed earlier?

sounds like naptime is too late. DS goes to bed between 7-7:30 and his nap is usually around 12-12:30. He rarely naps past 2:30 and is more than ready for bedtime.

We have a similar problem - DS usually naps between 1:30-3:30 ish and bed by 8-8:30 and wakes between 7:15-7:45. If your DD is anything like DS, it'll be hard to get her in for an earlier nap. But maybe try waking her up after just an hour anda half or two hours? I know it's so tempting to let them sleep, especially if you're a SAHM (lik I am!) but 2.5 hours is really long.
Good luck!

Same here....DD will be 3 next week. My personal belief is that if they are still sleeping 2+ hrs, then they must still need it! I always wake my DD if she is not up by 4-4:30. And yes, she may roll around in her crib for 40 mins before she falls asleep at bedtime, but I believe she still really needs that nap (and so do I! LOL)

Re: Should I drop DD nap ( 2 years 8 months ) She is staying up so late!
DD hasn't had a set nap since she was 15-18 months old.... when i say no set nap, it means she did or she didn't... i don't push naps for the most part, there are days i will push one, but thats rare and its only bc i am exhausted.
with that said.. DD is 2.5 if she does nap she goes to bed at 10:30-11pm (thats with a 10 min nap or longer)
if she doesn't nap she usually crashes about 8-8:30pm
i say give up the naps.. she used to get cranky around 5, but that stopped.
at her age i would give up naps...

I would wake her early from her nap. If you know she's going to be unmanageable in the later part of the afternoon without the nap, it's better that she rest. DS1 is 3 yrs and 8 months and frequently still naps.

ITA My 4yo still naps 2+ hours a day (though I realize this is unusual but he definitely needs it).
I'd still let her go down at 1 but wake her by 2:30 and see if that helps. Keep drawing back the wake up time if it's not correcting the bedtime.
