UPDATED IN OP!!!! We have our annual CPSE meeting tomorrow

And although I know what to expect and his services are pretty much set I still get anxious over it He will be getting a full day integrated program plus continue speech and OT. The only things we need to work out is the speech services he will be receiving (his speech therapist would like to add a group session plus a push-in group/feeding therapy at lunch time).

My district has been so wonderful and I never left there feeling like I "lost" but the whole process is still so intimidating. Wish me luck!




UPDATE 5/26

Our annual meeting went great as I suspected! My parent trainer also showed up and could not believe how generous and easy our district is!

We decided to keep him at ACDS because they offered him the full-time Integrated program for September and he has transitioned and done so well there the past couple of months. His new class size will be 15:2:2 which will be perfect for him (1/2 will be typical kids and the other 1/2 will be like TJ). There is even a little girl in TJ's current 1/2 day class that will be moving into the full day class with him and they are buddies in class so I think it is great.

He will be getting OT 2x's a week and in addition to the 2 individual speech he gets now, they are going to add on 1 group speech. They are also allowing him to continue his current Social Skills class at Kidz Therapy through the summer!

The CPSE chair at my district said that she has had many children go through the ACDS integrated program and they transition nicely into kindergarten. It is one of her favorite programs and is so happy that I decided to keep him there.

Now I can relax


ETA: Forgot to add, he will be continuing in the 1/2 day program along with 2x's speech and 2x's OT for the summer.

our district is great, but the county is stingy I want to go in asking for more speech. I spoke to the SP teacher at the school I work in and she pumped me up with things to say...LOL

In case you want some suggestions (I apologize if you know all this already)...If TJ's not going with you, I would recommend you bring a picture of him so they can see who they are approving services for. I've heard it helps.

To ease my nerves (and so i wouldn't forget), I went Monday in with a written list in front of me of the things we wanted for him (the MUST haves, the maybes). Be willing to justify and fight for the things you think he needs! I'm a bad public speaker (my voice shakes) and I was able to do it (shaky voice and all )

Remember to BREATHE! It CAN be intimidating, but they are there to give him the services he needs. And worst case, you can call them in a few months to reconvene a meeting if you felt like they should add/delete something.

You may not even have to fight for anything. I'm praying that this is the case for you!

Please let us know how it goes Ladies. Mine is next week. I would love to hear success stories. My District has been great, but now we are going to be asking for more home services after school so we'll see how giving they are.

i've been on both sides of the meeting and either way i ALWAYS come prepared with organized notes of what i need to discuss. i helps take the edge off. good luck!

Come well dressed. Have DH come. Dress DS up AND bring him. I feel a pic is sometimes not enough to show who your child is.

DS is non verbal. When DS comes to a meeting and says "ahh" the whole time, they get it better.

Come prepare. Know his abilities, what he needs and why.

I always tell.... you have to sell your case.

I put everything in writing - the progress we've seen and the delays he still has, along with what I was requesting, including summer services. Then, I read the statement at the meeting. It's too emotional for me to just try to work off notes and after our first meeting I felt like I didn't get to express everything I wanted to. After that meeting, I prepared it all as a written statement and bring a copy for the chair to keep.
