Update on formula
I have been reading a lot of false information out there regarding what is going on with powdered formula - especially with enfamil newborn. As a ped. dietitian I am in frequent contact with all the formula reps so I have had a lot of info thrown my way. Some truthful, some not. Anyway..to clear it up, here is the truth:
Enfamil Newborn was tested 2 times by the company and multiple times by the FDA and CDC - every single test completed showed no bacteria. The formula, nursery water and bottle used to feed the baby that passed all tested positive - so the bacteria came from an environmental factor (poor hand washing, poor sterilization of bottle, refeeding of formula, etc). There was no recall issued on the product - however walmart stores did pull the product while they awaited testing...I believe the products have returned.
There were a total of 3 sick babies - 1 passed, 2 recovered. They were on different formulas - Similac, Similac Sensative and Enfamil Newborn.
All in all...enfamil newborn powder is safe, however there is a risk anytime you use any powder product on a newborn b/c it is not sterile. THis is why we only feed ready to feed in the nursery. If you are planning on using powder, wash and sterilize.

Re: Update on formula
I have a question for you. My DD takes about 1 hour to finnish her powder enfamil gentlease bottle. She likes to take breaks. We stick to the hour limit but will offer her the same bottle 2 to 3 times in the hour. Is this ok?

Re: Update on formula
yes that is fine...it is more important for newborns though to be extra cautious b/c they have a lower immune system.
PS. I can get you some free gent lease samples on their helping hand program...message me if you are interested..
